Historia
In lyric, accessible prose, Carlo Rovelli invites us to consider questions about the nature of time that continue to puzzle physicists and philosophers alike. For most listeners, this is unfamiliar terrain. We all experience time, but the more scientists learn about it, the more mysterious it appears. We think of it as uniform and universal, moving steadily from past to future, measured by clocks. Rovelli tears down these assumptions one by one, revealing a strange universe where, at the most fundamental level, time disappears.

Historia
Let us journey, with beloved physicist Carlo Rovelli, into the heart of a black hole. We slip beyond its horizon and tumble down this crack in the universe. As we plunge, we see geometry fold. Time and space pull and stretch. And finally, at the black hole’s core, space and time dissolve, and a white hole is born. Rovelli has dedicated his career to uniting the time-warping ideas of general relativity and the perplexing uncertainties of quantum mechanics. In White Holes, he reveals the mind of a scientist at work.

Historia
Sean Carroll, theoretical physicist and one of this world’s most celebrated writers on science, rewrites the history of 20th-century physics. Already hailed as a masterpiece, Something Deeply Hidden shows for the first time that facing up to the essential puzzle of quantum mechanics utterly transforms how we think about space and time. His reconciling of quantum mechanics with Einstein’s theory of relativity changes, well, everything. Most physicists haven’t even recognized the uncomfortable truth: Physics has been in crisis since 1927.

Resumen del Editor
The New York Times best seller from the author of The Order of Time, Reality Is Not What It Seems and Helgoland.
This playful, entertaining, and mind-bending introduction to modern physics briskly explains Einstein's general relativity, quantum mechanics, elementary particles, gravity, black holes, the complex architecture of the Universe, and the role humans play in this weird and wonderful world. Carlo Rovelli, a renowned theoretical physicist, is a delightfully poetic and philosophical scientific guide. He takes us to the frontiers of our knowledge: To the most minute reaches of the fabric of space, back to the origins of the cosmos, and into the workings of our minds. The audiobook celebrates the joy of discovery.
“Here, on the edge of what we know, in contact with the ocean of the unknown, shines the mystery and the beauty of the world", Rovelli writes. “And it’s breathtaking”.
Reseñas de la Crítica
“One of the year’s most entrancing books about science.” (The Wall Street Journal)
“Clear, elegant...a whirlwind tour of some of the biggest ideas in physics.” (The New York Times Book Review)
“The writing is elegant and poetic, and Carlo's explanatory clarity is compelling. He organized this short book into seven lessons that introduce the non-specialized reader to the most fascinating questions about the universe, including how we learn about it.” (NPR)

How much can we know about the world? In this audiobook physicist Marcelo Gleiser traces our search for answers to the most fundamental questions of existence, the origin of the universe, the nature of reality, and the limits of knowledge. In so doing he reaches a provocative conclusion: Science, like religion, is fundamentally limited as a tool for understanding the world. As science and its philosophical interpretations advance, we face the unsettling recognition of how much we don't know.

Taking in 440 sextillion kilometers of space and 13.8 billion years of time, it is physically impossible to make a better map: We will never see the early universe in more detail. On the one hand, such a view is the apotheosis of modern cosmology; on the other, it threatens to undermine almost everything we hold cosmologically sacrosanct.

What is space? It isn't a question that most of us normally stop to ask. Space is the venue of physics; it's where things exist, where they move and take shape. Yet over the past few decades, physicists have discovered a phenomenon that operates outside the confines of space and time. The phenomenon - the ability of one particle to affect another instantly across the vastness of space - appears to be almost magical.

A dazzling tour of the universe as Einstein saw it. How did Albert Einstein come up with the theories that changed the way we look at the world? By thinking in pictures. Michio Kaku, leading theoretical physicist (a cofounder of string theory) and best-selling science storyteller, shows how Einstein used seemingly simple images to lead a revolution in science. With originality and expertise, Kaku uncovers the surprising beauty that lies at the heart of Einstein's cosmos

Mystics and sages have long maintained that there exists an interconnecting cosmic field at the roots of reality that conserves and conveys information, a field known as the Akashic record. Recent discoveries in vacuum physics show that this Akashic field is real and has its equivalent in science's zero-point field that underlies space itself. This field consists of a subtle sea of fluctuating energies from which all things arise: atoms and galaxies, stars and planets, living beings, and even consciousness.

Throughout history, scientists have come up with theories and ideas that just don't seem to make sense. These we call paradoxes. The paradoxes Al-Khalili offers are drawn chiefly from physics and astronomy and represent those that have stumped some of the finest minds. With elegant explanations that bring the listener inside the mind of those who've developed them, Al-Khalili helps us to see that, in fact, paradoxes can be solved if seen from the right angle.

In trying to understand the atom, physicists built quantum mechanics, the most successful theory in science and the basis of one-third of our economy. They found, to their embarrassment, that with their theory, physics encounters consciousness. Authors Bruce Rosenblum and Fred Kuttner explain all this in nontechnical terms with help from some fanciful stories and anecdotes about the theory's developers. They present the quantum mystery honestly, emphasizing what is and what is not speculation.

Not only can we not currently explain the origin of the universe, it is questionable we will ever be able to explain it. It is mind blowing. It is clear and concise. Read by the author, it is a distinct pleasure. I know English is not his native tongue, so the way he speaks is so concise and charming. He is thought-provoking yet he gets the concepts across clearly. It made me really think about physics, life, and being human.

Hey most remarkable book
What can I say but it was marvelous to hear Carlo Ravelli. It took me back to my college days in the 50s when I realized that my prof in physics made the most sense of any of my teachers.

A fresh perspective!
The content was great and had some new perspectives that I had yet to encounter up to this point, having already read most of the works by physicists such as Hawking, Tyson, Dirac, Carroll, Einstein, and others. The only downside to this audio book is that Rovelli's accent made it somewhat hard to understand the narration when I was listening during work. This was most likely due to the untreated rooms I was working in (bad acoustics/lots of reverb and echo) and the fact that I was giving the book maybe 75% of my attention. However I've been listening to a few other audio books in the same environment and the same way without these issues. Overall it is a great book and has earned a spot in my hardback collection!

Definitely a must-read, although narrator is difficult to understand.
Wow. This book is incredible. I'd recommend it to anyone that is willing to endure the narrator's thick accent.

Short but Sweet
I read "Reality is not what it seems" first and was not overly impressed. I really hesitated using a credit for a 1.75 hour selection from an author I found dubious. I got it anyway and was glad I did. This is a very good introduction to some of the key deep issues in physics. These are not basic F=MA physics lessons. These are lessons to get you thinking about what is next in physics. When finished with this book, I immediately started it again and added "The Order of Time" to my library. "The Order of Time" is an even better book, but this book should be read first to prime one's mental pump.
This is the first science book I have recommended to my adult daughter (and I have read a lot of science books). I also recommended to her "The Order of Time" (an even better book). It will be interesting to hear what she thinks of those two books.
The author does have an accent that caused me to rewind a couple of times, but he is very clear and reads with great heart.

great points
Thick accent
I wanted to take advantage of this moment to learn about physics but my attention was directed on understanding what was being said most of the time.
