Resumen del Editor

Seven-year-old Chellamuthu's life - and his destiny - is forever changed when he is kidnapped from his village in Southern India and sold to the Lincoln Home for Homeless Children. His family is desperate to find him, and Chellamuthu anxiously tells the Indian orphanage that he is not an orphan, he has a mother who loves him. But he is told not to worry, he will soon be adopted by a loving family in America.

Chellamuthu is suddenly surrounded by a foreign land and a foreign language. He can't tell people that he already has a family and becomes consumed by a single impossible question: How do I get home? But after more than a decade, home becomes a much more complicated idea as the Indian boy eventually sheds his past and receives a new name: Taj Khyber Rowland.

It isn't until Taj meets an Indian family who help him rediscover his roots - as well as marrying Priya, his wife, who helps him unveil the secrets of his past - that he begins to discover the truth he has all but forgotten. Taj is determined to return to India and begin the quest to find his birth family. But is it too late? Is it possible that his birth mother is still looking for him? And which family does he belong to now?

From the best-selling author of The Rent Collector, this is a deeply moving and gripping journey about discovering oneself and the unbreakable family bonds that connect us forever.

From One World to Another and Back

I thoroughly enjoyed the Orphan Keeper and highly recommend it to anyone who likes a novel based on true incidents. The descriptions are rich and full, pulling the listener into this saga from the streets of India to an all white suburb in America. Simon Vance, the narrator, was the perfect choice for this book.

Inspiring!

The story tugged at my heart strings. I don't know that I could put into words all of my feelings but this was most inspiring! Great book and a must read or must listen if you are doing audio! I don't always love the narrator in a book but this narrator was absolutely fabulous!

Good story, clunky writing, great narration!

Liked the characters; especially finding they’re based in reality.
Story is good one, but found the writing a bit clunky in the middle.
Simon Vance ,as usual, brings the whole thing to life so well.

Intriguing Story

I loved this novel based on a man's life experiences. From being kidnapped and sold to an orphanage to his American adoption. It was amazing to see his journey to find himself.

Amazing tale of Love, Loss, Miracles & Reunions

I thought this story was just so compelling I could hardly put it down. I could hardly wait to get back to the story.

Simon Vance is a brilliant narrator and did a flawless job of navigating all the accents amazingly.

I knew from ads that the main character found his family again, but I could just never imagine how it would all happen. I have seen the question on reviews sometimes: Was this a book you wanted to listen to in one sitting. The overwhelming answer to this question is YES!! When I had to go back to work it was a burden and I could hardly get back to it quickly enough. I bought it on the Kindle and Audible and switched back and forth so I could finish it more quickly and still be with others. I avoided co-workers to keep the story going through lunch. I so enjoyed it.

I wish such wonderful endings for all lost children or parents with lost children.

What an amazing story. I couldn't stop listening.

This book is well worth your time. I really enjoyed the author's style and how he wove a true story into such a powerful novel. I've lived in India and the author captures the essence of India in such a rich meaningful way. The characters are well developed and you feel close to them--you care about what happens - - you won't want to stop listening, even when it's over.
