This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams.

Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time. Afraid and trapped among strangers, Mina is desperate for answers. Who are the watchers and why are these creatures keeping them imprisoned, keen to watch their every move?

I couldn’t stop listening! I usually only listen to audibles when I drive but this one was so good, I couldn’t stop until the last word! Gripping and emotionally charged! Kept me on edge the whole time!

Addictive!

This was a great great story. I enjoyed it from the beginning till the end…. or was it the end ? Wow game changer! incredible, spooky, scary and I love the voice of the performer too.
Thank you for a great listen !

Good Prose & Characters

The story was decent. It obviously would be a scary situation, but I just kept waiting for it to get truly creepy.

Excellent!

I couldn’t stop listening to this one! I get distracted easily and it takes a lot to suck me into a story, but this one did. It is not gory if that’s what you’re looking for. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and I loved the ending. I would love a sequel!

Meh…not bad, but not really good either.

This was an ok book and it was at least a new concept, but I don’t feel like it had much substance to it.

Story- First off, it wasn’t scary at all. The author concentrated too much on the non-scary details of the story and tended to skip over the details dealing with the horror so that the momentum was constantly ruined. I also feel like the timeline wasn’t very clear. One moment I would think a character was talking about a matter of hours, then you would fine out that weeks had passed. I understand that in these circumstances a person would lose track of time, but I feel like that can be portrayed better to a reader so that the READER can keep track of time even if the character can’t.
I also don’t feel like the ‘monsters’ made a lot of sense. Their motivations seemed random and made little sense to me. It felt like there had been a plan of sentience to them and menace like they were playing with their victims, but then they also seemed like they were thoughtless like animals.
Pros- I did like the idea presented with Madeline’s character, I won’t specify due to spoilers, but I thought it was a novel concept that wasn’t very well executed.
Over all I think it was an interesting story that just wasn’t executed well.

Performance- I think Jacqueline Milne did an excellent job narrating. She has a beautiful voice to listen to and the individual characters were easy to differentiate. I think she gave more life to the characters than was actually written into the book.

I would not recommend this book for anyone looking for a horror or thriller story. It doesn’t really have any elements of ‘scare’ or drama to it.

Fast listen

After the first chapter I was hooked. I didn't know what to expect from this book but i'm so glad I found it because it was creepy, but oh so good. Honestly, you had no clue what was really happening. It wasn't towards the end that I realized somethings. I even like the way the author left it so that we can kind of create our own ending, but we still got a great ending. I highly recommend

Just when you think you’re going to be ok, you’re not. This was a great read!

Have your friends close and your enemies closer

This was a great listen, I would say it’s a little slow burn at first, but when things go bump outside the window ;) you are sucked in as if you are part of the group trying to figure out how to survive and who or what is against you….

The constant unsettling, foreboding atmosphere!

I really liked that we didn’t get the twist until the last minute. I thought I had it all figured out but this book kept me thinking ‘hmm maybe I don’t know.’ I would’ve loved to know more background about the ‘watchers’!
