Publisher's summary

Join Dirk and his genius Goose companion in their relentless pursuit of the perfect run.

Dirk was America’s golden boy. Olympic golds, Wheaties box—the works.

That was ten years ago. Turns out going to prison is terrible for sponsorships. Now, he’s alone, a felony on his record, and bitter at the world.

Enter the Tower of Conflict.

Just what a man needs to get out of a rut—the end of the world and a Tower to Climb. Aided by his talking goose animal companion, magical cape, and the Goddess of Fate herself, Dirk is primed to take this Tower by storm.

He was always more of a lone wolf, but when the competing alien races start smacking humanity around the Tower, he’ll be forced to lean on his teammates, unlock new magic, and broker reluctant alliances.

Because if he doesn’t, humanity is doomed....

Welcome to the Tower, Climbers. Try not to die on the first day!

Don't miss this hilarious new LitRPG Apocalypse featuring a sometimes loveable and oftern muderhobo-ey MC, a know-it-all goose companion, honking good humor, a detailed System, time-loop magic, and more. It's perfect for fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl, Towers of Heaven, and Tower Climber.

Fast paced adventure that keeps you wondering how the hero will get out of his next battle! Great start for a new series!

Nice change of pace

While Dunning is new to me, Thron certainly isn’t. And I was here for Thron, stayed for Dunning. Both do a wonderful job with Darling of Fate. And I’m a sucker for a good animal sidekick. Go goose!

Tons of Potential, just ok start

This is getting 5 stars for how good it could be... but it's a rough start. Somewhat unique setup to a tower climber, with a very cool MC power set - I really like the mini time loop aspect. Unfortunately this story had 1 big problem holding it back, and that's pacing. It's painfully slow, with maybe 1 day passing in the whole book. I get the time loop aspect will slow it down, but this stated to drag to the point of not making sense. There is almost no actual plot progress here, the whole book focuses on what others would have spent maybe the first few chapters on: the apocalypse setup, meeting the party, and entering the tower - that's the whole book. Spoilers...... it's stated that each floor could be a world unto itself and will take years to reach even floor 7; but only a few hours in floor 1, the races are about to open the path to floor 2. Author needs to cut down the time looping and let real time move or not dedicate multiple chapters to every reset, 7 time per day. Love everything else but if this pacing continues I won't make it through another book.

This ain’t no cookie cutter story!

I just happen to finish reading The Perfect Run series just before starting this audible book and I was so happy to see they are similar without being the same. This one has a great balance of story, action, character, and author’s wittiness. I usually don’t like characters starting out overpowered, but when they fail in spite of their advantages, and in fun ways, the author has absolutely succeeded in writing in that trope. I am so looking forward to book 2.

This is prolly one of my favorite reads this year. Join Dirk as he gallivants around.

I absodamnlutely loved this book! I really didn't know anything about the book, other than I trusted Aethon the publisher and I've enjoyed Phil Thron in the past... And don't get confused by the cover, the red cape... Darling of Fate isn’t a story of supers, it's a well rounded action-driven litRPG adventure. And it's well worth the time it takes you to listen. So join Dirk and his goose companion, yeah you heard me I said goose companion, as they build a team and go gallivanting though the system.

Amusing

Plenty of comedy and good action, sounds like leveling up is a little too much fun.
