Story
Fifteen-year-old equestrian prodigy Roan Montgomery has only ever known two worlds: inside the riding arena and outside of it. Both, for as long as she can remember, have been ruled by her father, who demands strict obedience in all areas of her life. The warped power dynamic of coach and rider extends far beyond the stables, and Roan's relationship with her father has long been inappropriate. She has been able to compartmentalize that dark aspect of her life, ruthlessly focusing on her ambitions as a rider heading for the Olympics, just as her father had done.

UrbanMyth: It was lauded as an alternative to the performative, show-your-best-self platforms—an anonymous discussion board grouped by zip code. The residents of Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side disclosed it all, things they would never share with their friends or their spouses: secret bank accounts, steamy affairs, tidbits of juicy gossip. So when a “hacktivist” group breaks into the forum and exposes the real identity of each poster, the repercussions echo down Park Avenue with a force that none could have anticipated.

Caitlyn Lloyd has the world at her feet. Or more accurately - under her horse’s hooves. With the 2016 Rio Olympics just around the corner, nothing is going to derail her long-held dream of winning a medal or two in Olympic dressage. Not even the reappearance of a childhood so-not-a-friend throwing her perfectly balanced life into disarray. Addie Gardner’s career is at its peak, and accepting a last-minute fill-in position as the veterinarian for the US Olympic Dressage Team was a no-brainer. The fact that her old crush from Pony Club is on the team is just a bonus.

Publisher's summary
“The thriller of the summer.”—Today.com
Set in the glamorous, competitive world of showjumping, a novel about the girls who ride, their cutthroat mothers, and a suspicious death at a horse show…from the author of Good Rich People
When the nouveau riche Parker family moves to an exclusive community in the heart of Southern California, they believe it’s their chance at a fresh start. Heather Parker is determined to give her daughters the life she never had—starting with horses.
She signs them up for riding lessons at Rancho Santa Fe Equestrian, where horses are a lifestyle. Heather becomes a “Barn Mom,” part of a group of wealthy women who hang at the stables, drink wine, and prepare their daughters for competition.
It’s not long before the Parker family is fully enmeshed in the horse world—from mean girl cliques to barn romances and dark secrets. With the end of summer horse show fast approaching, the pressure is on, and these mothers will stop at nothing to give their daughters everything they deserve.
Before the summer is over, lies will turn lethal, accidents will happen, and someone will end up dead.
Critic reviews
“Calling all former horse girls: This is the thriller you've been waiting for.”—Good Housekeeping
"In this whodunnit set in the elite show-jumping scene, new money clashes with old, while mean girls and competetive moms abound. Brazier gets everything right about how the horse world can go wrong."—People
"The complex motives, class divisions and nice-nasty backbiting among the “horse girls” and “barn moms” brings to mind the competitive female environments in Megan Abbott’s novels, but Brazier’s experience as a horsewoman and deep knowledge of that world could make her the next Dick Francis."—LA Times

Horse facts are questionable
I read this book because I’m a horse person. And, I have great admiration for the process of writing and publishing a book. Kudos to the author for this accomplishment. But, there is absolutely no way that some of the situations in this story could ever happen. For example, no horse show would have bon fires by a horse barn. No rider could go from walking on a lunge line to meter 30 in a day. But, the story was developed in a clever fashion and there was a bit of redemption in some of the characters. I did not appreciate the sex between children that have just come of age. This was tasteless. The character of the head trainer was, sadly, pretty on point.

Pretty good book about horses and “girls”
This book is about girls, women, men and horses. And murder. Excellent narration, good pacing.

Such an entertaining book!
I had saved a screen shot of the cover & after seeing it recommended in a horse related fb group I immediately downloaded. Very fun read! A few details weren’t realistic but overall super enjoyable & kept me guessing.

Great read all around, very engaging, gripping suspense, unexpected twists & turns, believable characters I was passionate about, couldn’t put it down. Plus very interesting to learn about posh horse-people’s world. Very well read, loved the reader!

Narrating is so good!!
Loved the narrator, she perfectly captured the voice and attitude of each unique character. The end of the story felt rushed but overall enjoyable!
