A lot happens in this book

I was told the first book or two were a slow read. I did not really agree I was hooked and read both within in 3 weeks. I will say that SO MUCH happens in this, the third book. As a ‘listener’ I found myself going “wait what” so many times in the first 20 chapters I ended up starting again so I could pay better attention. There are lots of new characters to follow. As always SJM doesn’t disappoint!

Wow, just wow

The story building in the third book is intense as new characters and parts of the world are unveiled. The main character is really tested, and it gets you fully invested in her story knowing all she is going through. Loving where the story is going! And another great performance.

Good

The only thing I did not like about this book was it was so long but other than that I really loved it. Celaena goes through a lot of trials in this book. she manages to get her self across the ocean to another land where she is hoping to find her aunt. Instead she has to wait to see her aunt until a specific fae deems her worthy enough to see her. Celaena learns a lot about herself, her magic, and her aunt. I love the end of this book I just hope that Celaena can get back to the land she came from to help save the kingdom.

If you weren’t sure about TOG, this is the book that’ll change your mind

The story:
Just so, so fun, start to finish. I had a hard time originally getting into TOG, coming from devouring ACOTAR in two months time. The first two of TOG were most definitely YA, this one felt like the author was leaning more into the story and has me excited for the events following. I’m positive this book was the deciding factor for me of whether or not I would continue the series, and I most certainly am.
The performance:
Elizabeth Evan’s voice is exactly what I’d imagine our main character would sound like, but unfortunately her male voices are cringe-worthy at best. She depends her voice in a way that makes them all sound the same, but also takes all inflection away from the characters, somehow making them feel one-dimensional. I would love to see an unabridged version of tog, with a full cast of course, but I do with Elizabeth Evans would have just read the male voices in her own voice.

Once again- riveted

Clung to it, I did.
It got me through COVID, gastroenteritis, aches, pains, fatigue and boredom as I was healing from the shit my immune system failed to keep out. Sarah J Maas is brilliant.

The story just gets better and better…

Okay, maybe I was skeptical at first with this series. Maybe, just a teensy bit… But not now, now I’m fully invested and I can’t wait to read the next book!

Strong Female MC for the Ages

Sarah J Maas has this intricate way in which she weaves details through her story’s and in Heir of Fire this talent shines. The way we are able to work through the maze of memories and trauma with Celaena, as well as Dorian and Choal, to the people they needed to be at the end is captivating. Where ACOTAR was vibrant with world building, it is character development that truly begins to take helm here in the ToG series. Rowan is an exceptional male lead in my opinion, helping make her a better person, and vice versa. I am excited to see where the series leads!
