Story
Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him. Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere. But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

Story
When single mother Darcy’s son falls from a rope bridge at a local playground, life stands still. She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life. George, with his twinkling hazel eyes, easy charm and lack of wedding band is almost too good to be true, but coffee becomes lunch, lunch becomes dinner, and soon they can’t go an evening without seeing each other.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together. But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to?

Story
A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation. She thought this would be a break. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought. Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost. Wow! Great listen!!
The story takes some time to develop. But it is worth sticking around to take the full ride. Its like you're slowly click clicking up to the top of a roller coaster for what feels an unbearably long time. There are so many clues and hints that things aren't quite right in the world the author paints. But how does it all connect? What is really going on here? The dizzying and satisfying ride down the roller coaster once it launches , when things start snapping into place bit by tiny bit to put all the pieces into place, is so worth it!!! A must read!!!

Kept you guessing, but conclusion was wacky
I really enjoyed the first three fourths of this book. The women’s relationships were interesting as they developed and it kept you guessing about Janie’s big secret, which characters were good and what the husband was up to. However, toward the end, the plot become ridiculous and unbelievable and I completely lost interest.

My fave!
This was definitely my favorite book by KL Slater, so far. I have already read about 10 of her books. I am really confused by some of the other reviews …like are they reading a different book than I am? This was an amazing story and an excellent plot. The way in which she describes all the different characters is phenomenal! Each description is very precise and believable. I could literally picture each character, hear their voices, smell their perfume… etc.
I really liked this story and I was truly sad when it came to an end.

Fabulous story that keeps you engaged and guessing until the end!!Slater has a magnificent gift for weaving a story in which each facet is unveiled, presenting new information, but in a way that the ending isn’t revealed or even hinted at!
This is the third book of Slater’s that I’ve read, stumbling across her in the included in your subscription category. Thank you Audible for turning me on to this fabulous author!!
