so amazing and informational

this is a great book to listen to on the way to work or to relax. So many stories and tales to excite the mind and allow a deeper understanding of the mindset of ancient people. my only complaint is that I wish that there were more stories about African, Polynesian,Native American
stories.

Meh.

This author's writing is belabored and redundant, and too much of his information is either incorrect or incompletely presented. He sometimes fails to convey the point of the myth, offering a series of events with no climax or lesson. He does offer a decent handshake with world mythology, however. You'll be familiar with some of the important names and places by the end. As an aside, Oliver Hunt is a very pleasant narrator.

good start. not good place to stop.

the asian and indian name pronunciation is a bit painful for me, and the later Egyptian stuff feels . . . . not sure fake is the right word, fabricated or plagerised. a Cinderella story where the protagonist grew up listening to fables directly from Aesop. seems like a fanfic of the highest order.
that said, the tales are a good starter for digging deeper.

Good, Editing Needs Work

Overall good audio book. Only real complaint is the editing could use work. There were times when you could here pages being turned or the narrator would stop and then restart the previous sentence.

Lovely and useful compilation

I rather liked this compilation. for what it is - an effort to retell much of the World's mythology in only 31 hrs. It is quite satisfactory. The only thing that bothered me was how close the Norse myths part seemed to be to Gaiman's "Norse Mythology".
Myths being what they are, surely there are variances. Say, who really was Persephone's mother - perhaps, somewhere out there in some myths she is Hera's rather than Demetra's. At any rate, I don't find this to be a major issue. I think the author did a great job in conveying the main spirit and major stuff happening in these myths.

I liked hearing once again the stories I am somewhat familiar with - Greek, Norse, - and seriously, a refresher wasn't unhelpful.

I had to listen twice or even more to the less familiar material, here you blink and you already are missing an important chunk of what's going on. Chinese, Mesopotamian, Japanese, some of the Indian stories were quite new to me and phenomenally interesting. Definitely, Gilgamesh is now on my to-read-soon list. It is insane how old these stories are!!!!

Recommend to all who like this sort of thing.

Well done, minor things

People in this review section are brutal. And I mean BRUTAL with their reviews. Listen, I'm gonna give it to you real and clear as day.

This is long listen, and not in a bad way. There are SOME and I mean SOME consistency issues with mythology, being a person who studied mythology for a while I can tell you overall they got a lot right. If you are just starting in mythology I highly recommend this.

Here's the thing about myths. They are OLD and they have gone through many translations. Certain things are different depending on who is telling the story but main things tend to remain the same. Examples could include a gods role. Those usually remain the same.

This is a surface level intro to a lot of mythology but it does a good job of giving you some ground and foundation in a very vast field of many different cultures.

My #1 recommendation. Do not listen to the people who are negative in this review section. They are picky and they will find the smallest issue and blow it out of proportion. Any of the errors found in this book can just be confirmed or corrected with a simple quick search on google and some cross referencing.

Go for this book, it will be worth the listen in any free time and you will learn a lot about many different cultures.

As for the one person I saw who complained about how this was about the importance of mythology in cultures.......wtf do you think mythology is? It's stories that are important and teach lessons, if the authors don't explain why it's important then there's no basis for you to enjoy the story.

Have fun listening and I hope you learn a bit about mythology ☺️
