Publisher's summary

London in 1890 is shocked by a series of gruesome murders. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to them, except for their location in the Thames dockland. Scotland Yard is perplexed. Can Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson help before worse follows? And what is really going on?

Author Johanna Rieke brings rich and poor in Victorian London realistically to life, as she unfolds for you the surprising story of the Thames Murders. Disaster is averted at the last moment.

Excellent & wonderful

One of the very best pastiches yet. The style and atmosphere is on target. The relationship between Holmes & Watson is warm and friendly. Narrator David Bufton's unique voice is perfect. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves Holmes.

Misdirection

A murder in a rough and poor area has Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson; physically stick out as toffs and have difficulty fitting in and no one will talk to them, if not avoid them.

This story DIDN’T end with a bang…

And that’s a good thing! Holmes and Watson return in a tale worthy of the telling. A series of murders that today would be labeled serial killings confounds Holmes. The victims don’t appear to have anything in common.

The story is well told, and definitely captures the feel of London by Gaslight. The details are there to lend the feeling of verisimilitude. Well done, dear author.

The narrator does a creditable job, mispronouncing only a few words. While Holmes and Watson were a bit too similar for my tastes, on the whole, the vocal characterizations were solid.

I would definitely give this a listen.
