Publisher's summary

Two contentious elections. One dead philanderer. A monumental conspiracy. In the midst of Acting Coroner Fenway Stevenson’s reelection campaign, the body of a successful business owner is found in a pedestrian underpass—and she discovers that her young, hated stepmother is the prime suspect. As if that’s not bad enough, further digging only exposes a money-laundering scheme that could implicate dozens of residents in the coastal town she calls home. Each clue she uncovers puts her in more danger.

After an attempt on her life, and with more bodies piling up, how will Fenway solve the mystery, win the election—or simply save her own life?

Difficult to like Fenway.

It's a decent story but I have difficulties liking Fenway. She is young and needs to mature. She is selfish, is not gracious or forgiving. She wants to win the election but will do anything and grab at any excuse to avoid campaigning. Instead she likes to do interesting things that do not include making appearances. She prefers to investigate a crime she is barred from d/t conflict of interest. But she likes doing that, so that is what she does. And then claims that the campaigning was 'exhausting'.
She shows compassion for strangers yet treats her father with unforgiving anger.
The first book was the best, and I was excited about finding a new author who wrote well. Now I'm done with the series after this book.
