It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Amazing
I loved everything about The Ghosts of the Past and it was such an amazing read. I loved all the characters and the storyline. The narrator seriously did such a wonderful job with narrating the story and it brought it all to life. I highly recommend listening to this story and I am excited to read more books from the author.

Probably better as an actual book
I feel bad giving this such a low rating because I was given the audiobook for free and the author sounds like a great guy. However I didn't enjoy it all that much and I'll always give honest reviews.
I found the format of the audiobook a bit jarring. It's all about people communicating with each other and every voice is preceded by a letter to say who is talking. Like A: and G:. For all I know this may be normal in some audiobooks. I haven't heard this format before and I never quite got used to it. It doesn't help that the narrator doesn't distinguish the voices. All voices sound the same.
This is one story that I recommend rather be read than listened to. Even then I didn't find the story that interesting. There's no hook or reason to continue through the story. Other people may love it though. It has good Goodread reviews.
