Resumen del Editor

Only God knew why Jillian Slater agreed to return to New Orleans on the news that her father had finally drunk himself to death. It's not like they were close. She hadn't seen him - or her grandmother, the ice queen - in almost 20 years. But when Adella Atwater, the manager of her grandmother's apartment house, called and said her expenses would be paid if she'd fly in for the burial, a free trip to New Orleans was too intriguing to resist.

What Adella didn't tell her was that the apartment house wasn't a house at all - and that whatever it was, it bore the dead weight of a long and painful history. As soon as Jillian meets the odd assortment of renters and realizes that her grandmother had no idea she was coming, she hatches a plan to escape. But the investigation into her father's death quickly unfolds and Jillian is drawn into the lives of the colorful collection of saints and sinners who pass through Saint Silvanus. She soon discovers there is more at stake than she ever imagined. Who is behind the baffling messages and the strange relics left on the steps? Is it possible that her family is actually cursed? Or is it just this crazy old house that holds them all under its spell?

Jillian walks into a web of spiritual and personal danger borne out of her family's broken history, and despite Adella's wiliest efforts, only God himself can orchestrate the undoing of all that is going on at Saint Silvanus.

Great story!!!

I LOVED the plot!!! I also laughed out loud several times - and that's pretty rare for me. Thoroughly enjoyable book - and the narrator did a fantastic job navigating all the various Southern accents!!!

A worthy read, a poor listen

I have long appreciated Beth Moore & her brilliant ability to communicate & apply the truths of God's word. I enjoyed her 1st effort into fiction & probably would have enjoyed it a lot more if I read this book instead of listening to the audio version. The narration was wooden & uninspiring. A great disservice was done to this book. Someone was quite remiss in the selection of the narrator, direction & production of the audio version. If you liked the old tv show, Dragnet you will love the narration of this book. Also, there were several mispronounciations (ie Natchitoches) that were irritating & sloppy from an execution perspective. Beth Moore deserved a better effort.

What a story of redemption

Beth Moore, your story writing is captivating. It's lyrical and full of color! Maybe a cookbook from this story too??

I wanted more of these people, even to be friends with them.
I understand that barriers and the brokenness and the deep feelings of rejection and SO wanting to be accepted, but by the time Christmas rolled around I was. Please write more!!

Beth Moore's Style Shines!

I loved it and I hope and pray Beth will decide to write more titles in this genre! Great story, good blend of real life and the power of redemption, without being too "churchy" or cheesy.

Great storyline and plot!

Loved the story but its too detailed to me. Had I been reading, I would have finished in half the time because I would have skipped over so much. Other than that, it was a really good book and I would recommend but I would issue the detailed warning. Not every noun needs 2 or 3 adjectives in every other sentence.

Good Read...needs a book 2 to finish the story!

This was a very good book to listen to. I enjoyed the different voices and the engaging tone all through the story. I was a bit disappointed in the ending I am hoping there's going to be another book that follows this one's to tell me how everything ends up!

Fine story; heavy on the preaching.

The story had potential, but no way is it 4-5 star. It slacks badly in the last half, going from a mystery to a born-again spiritual journey. Some will love this, but Others may prefer to keep the preaching to a Sunday morning.

Good Story

Beth Moore has always known how to paint a picture and she does not fail to do that in this book. The characters are well developed and the story line holds your interest. And the narrator is perfect!
