Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Story
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

The decision to start a new life is never an easy one, but for Joe the transition was far from figurative. Becoming a permanent addition to a game world, it doesn't take long to learn that people with his abilities are actively hunted. In fact, if the wrong people gained knowledge of what he was capable of, assassins would appear in droves.

Story
Life’s tough when you’re trapped in an eight-year-old body on another world. His name is Eight. Not really, but that’s what the System decided after a slip of the tongue. One moment, he was stepping out the office door on the way home, and the next waking up on a hillside below a town wall. Oh, and the gate guard drove him off, because he thought Eight was a monster. What’s a boy to do in a world full of magic and so many, many hungry creatures searching for their next meal? Well, there’s an old man inside that body, and he'll use everything he’s learned to survive.

Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic. The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want. Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream.

Some say the World Law itself is broken and that the world is falling apart. In comes Sam Hastern. His family has been cursed by one of these classes for the last 50 years. No one has ever managed to level it, condemning them to the lowest paying jobs and life in a barren village.

Noah didn’t expect much from entering the virtual reality world of Asgard’s Fall. Even the danger of the experimental full immersion technology didn’t put him off. It beat living in a nursing home, and it was supposed to let him feel young again...at least until modern medicine and his body gave out. But there was something wrong with Asgard’s Fall. Most of the time, the “gods” running the game didn’t act like AIs were supposed to. Some of the players took things too seriously, like they knew something about the game that Noah didn’t.

Publisher's summary
The year is 2245, and the world has undergone explosive growth in multiple industries. The age of Virtual Reality came long ago, opening up new fields for people to enjoy and seek employment. There were even those that chose to sacrifice their physical bodies, becoming digital existences that lived within Internet communities.
But with the age of VR, everyone still dreamed of that next step, the next level of adventure. And after 100 years, it has finally arrived. The first consoles, known as Seeds, are mass distributed among the people, with such realism that they no longer qualified as a Virtual Reality, but as an Artificial Reality. But what happens when things become too real?

The familiar world collapsed overnight. As the Transformation progressed, disasters occurred throughout the Earth. Materials changed their properties, new species of flora and fauna appeared. The Game converted our world into a huge dungeon, completely replacing the previous civilization. However, the alien plans for Earth began to go awry from the very beginning. The conversion was less successful than expected. An ordinary young man stole the bonus for the first gaming action, depriving the invaders of their perk.

Launch day. That was what they called it. The day when over four million people vanished in an instant from the island of Manhattan. The day earthquakes ravaged the east coast. The day a 101-kilometer tall tower rose from the wreckage of the now empty city. The day every screen, newspaper, and smart phone displayed a single message from an unknown source: The Great Emperor has issued his challenge.

There are whole anthologies of stories out there about what humankind does when a game enters their world. But what about when they're living in one where a game arrived thousands of years before? Could Be Better
If you could sum up World Seed: Game Start in three words, what would they be?
I feel like this whole book was just a preface for the rest of there series. There are really no consistent protagonist. Only in the last few chapters did any intrigue finally show up. I felt like this story reads more as a diary and less as a story.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Give it a villain/corporation that the main charter is growing to battle.
Any additional comments?
It is not a bad start to a series, but it really left a lot to be desired. I think that the author has a lot more to give as everything is very detailed and imaginative. I just feel like the meat of the story was missing.

Funny and weirdly creative
Lol this genre combines magic and tech and the book switches between the two frequently. The author has done great tongue in cheek humor lol. Hellegers will forever have a 10 star rating from me

Have finished all 3 books
Any additional comments?
Many of the reviews are correct. This book has very little story, containing mostly game mechanics. I'm writing this review here after finishing the third book. Don't give up on this series. The first book seems to be setting everything up. It gets more interesting and adds a tremendous amount of unique ideas to both LITRPG and SciFi. Once the second book comes suddenly there is a story and at least I, am finding it interesting.

Stat Heavy
This first book is stat heavy. Good story though. Over all it flowed nicely and was easy to follow along, looking forward to Book 2.

3.5 stars
Book is mostly investigation into magic or science & how it can combine or be used. Pace is fast, some action, little humor, no romance & the performance is good.
VR book with an interesting magic / syfy combo & a RL twist, that subtly impacts the whole setting: NO SPOILERS.
It's 3.5 for me: #1 theirs a bit too much internal thinking, to figure how magic & stuff work. #2 so it's mostly a story, with interesting concepts.

Absolutely no story what so ever.
This is what I was looking for. I wanted a grindfest, something where someone desires and pursues power regardless of an antagonist. I like the idea of intuitive control where inovation is rewarded. This is what i like.

Fun litrpg Druid story
I like and appreciate that the author went with not only a Druid, but that he also combined the fantasy and sci-fi genres. I would recommend.

Excellent
Loved how the two stories merged. Loved the litrpg element and the space stuff. Please keep writing. Thank you.
