Publisher's summary

New York Times Best Seller

“I come from a family forged by tragedies and bound by a remarkable, unbreakable love,” Hunter Biden writes in this deeply moving and “unflinchingly honest” (Entertainment Weekly) memoir of addiction, loss, and survival.

When he was two years old, Hunter Biden was badly injured in a car accident that killed his mother and baby sister. In 2015, he suffered the devastating loss of his beloved big brother, Beau, who died of brain cancer at the age of 46. These hardships were compounded by the collapse of his marriage and a years-long battle with drug and alcohol addiction.

In Beautiful Things - “an astonishingly candid and brave book about loss, human frailty, wayward souls, and hard-fought redemption” (Dave Eggers, New York Times best-selling author) - Hunter recounts his descent into substance abuse and his tortuous path to sobriety. The story ends with where Hunter is today - a sober married man with a new baby, finally able to appreciate the beautiful things in life.

Beautiful and Raw

I had never heard of Hunter Biden before the 2020 election when the president asked “where’s Hunter?” To be honest I was asking “who is Hunter?”
This book answers both of those questions in an incredibly raw and revealing picture of addiction and the spiral downward.
Hunter narrates very well in his emotional performance. I really enjoyed the book and it’s convinced me to stay even further away from drugs and alcohol.

The redemptive power of unconditional love and hum

In his book “Beautiful Things” Hunter Biden reveals the redemptive power of unconditional love and human compassion. While complete disclosure robs all venom from negative aspersions it also enhances the courage of any recovering addict with knowledge that those beyond his or her immediate family can fully share in the hopeful power of shared experience. Described at its beginning, the full significance of the book’s title reaches full disclosure only in the book’s concluding chapter and epilogue. I believe this book will deepen the compassion and understanding of any reader for the often-devastating experiences of others. Hunter's personal narration makes this audio book expecially memorable.

a TRUE accounting of alcoholism and addiction

as a 20 years sober recovering alcoholic I found his telling of his addiction honest , compelling and hopeful , in the sense that being this honest (and hopefully continuing to keep it right up front) about your disease is usually what will keep you sober.
Although I am a bit surprised not to hear more insight into how his addiction affected his family. A father (Joe) that had already lost two children, now suffering for years, worrying if today will be the day when he gets the phone call that Hunter is dead as well.
But regardless of mt own 'Take" on long term recovery, I found this memoir honest and an easy read. it's interesting,fast-paced and I read it all in one day, wanting to know how everything turned out in the end!

Emotionally insightful

This book goes beyond politics, beyond Joe Biden. This is Hunter Biden’s crazy, twisted, and deep life story. It is a story of heartbreak, addiction, losing what you love, but prevailing through it all. I highly recommend this book.

Surprisingly great

I started this out of curiosity but found it really engaging. There are some really touching moments and deeply tragic ones as well. I finished this even angrier about Rudy’s smear campaign against him that occurred at some of the most vulnerable moments of his life. Hunter was incredibly candid about his failings in relationships and to addiction and he did a terrific job narrating his life story.

As real as it gets

No matter your politics or rather set that aside and open your mind to our shared, common humanity. For anyone who has struggled to understand addiction, and the complicated family dynamics, this book is for you. Ultimately this is a story of redemption through the power of love.

Unexpected Gem

Over the course of the campaign and impeachment trial I heard a hundred different opinions about Hunter but I had never actually heard him speak. I got the book more out of curiosity and I am glad I did. It’s honest. Brutally honest. It’s hard to listen to how addiction tears apart Hunters life but the insights and lessons taken on the other side were worth the listen. Stay strong Hunter I wish you all the best.
