Publisher's summary

Being sentenced by a woman in a black robe is not a meet-cute. Quinn Jeffries follows the rules. A judge in small-town Sinful, Montana, doesn’t have much room for missteps, and when you spend your childhood training for the Olympics, you don’t have time for anything but discipline anyway. And, see? It’s worked! Her life is just fine. Of course, it doesn’t include any romance, but her new six-first-dates plan could fix that. She just has to be feminine and beguiling, or maybe marginally less take-charge. Too bad she doesn’t know how.

Beckett Hughes has a few problems, too, but nothing he can’t fix. Yes, he’s an Aussie in small-town Montana, and his kids don’t understand why he’s moved them halfway around the world, but he can do this. He has to. He isn’t counting on rescuing a useless monkey-faced dog from a rubbish bag or on making one of the stupidest decisions of his life bang in front of a cop and ending up standing before a judge he last saw in her swim costume. He doesn’t need any of this. Except that it seems he does.

How do you drag a woman into sin when she doesn’t even recognize the destination?

Love the characters

Once again Rosalind James has written relatable characters despite having completely unrelatable (for me) circumstances. She's so good at that. I especially loved the dog since I'm a chug-mom myself. She writes great strong, independent women, but I did get a little annoyed with the assumptions that Quinn makes throughout the story. By the end of the book I loved her though, once her confidence was able to show. I found the first half of the book a little meandering, but the second half hooked me and I sped right through it. Overall a great read.

I am super picky about narrators but as usual, Emma Wilder is fantastic.

Emma Wilder masterfully brings this story to life!

When two accomplished people meet in traffic court, the odds seem against them. The Aussie and Olympic swimming judge seem like an unlikely match, but real life put their paths on an intersection and two small children cemented their connection.

Emma Wilder is a favorite narrator and she just brings so much to the story.

Great story

This was a fabulous addition to the Sinful, Montana series. I know when I pick up a book by Rosalind James that her characters are always believable and the way she describes the surroundings, often makes me feel as though I am seeing the places she talks about as I read.

Born To Sin is Judge Quinn Jeffries and single dad (and Australian) Beckett Hughes’ story and it was well written and entertaining. Beckett is swoon worthy and made my heart jump on occasion. Quinn needs romance and puts a plan in motion that had me smiling.

Quinn and Beckett have a history and it was fun watching their relationship develop. Born To Sin was a romantic, sweet, humorous story which had great secondary characters and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Emma Wilder did a wonderful job with her narration. Her voice is easy to listen to and she brought the story to life for me.

Beckett and Quinn

The audible for this book was narrated by Emma Wilder. She did a remarkable job with the voices and accents, bringing the story to life. I previously read the book and my book review follows:

This is Sinful, Montana: Book 4 by author Rosalind James. She is a master at world-building and depth of character. Family, straight talk, and a bit of a mystery make this story flow in the best possible way. I enjoyed Beckett and Quinn, their lives, their pasts, and their careers. I also enjoyed Janey and Troy, but I especially enjoyed the crows. Get to know them all. You won’t be disappointed.

Enjoyed as always

I enjoyed this but it was a little uneven in places so not my favorite of the series, and I've read and listened to them all. Emma Wilder is the perfect reader for these books. The beginning is so fun, especially the blind dates; paddle boarding was priceless. The breakup scene at the country club made me laugh out loud. The visit to Australia was good but somehow didn't quite work for me. All in all, well done, the characters, as always, are so well done.

How Do You Define "Success"?

Quinn McLaughlin is a small- town judge and former Olympian who only runs (or swims) on one speed…constant and driven. Beckett Hughes, a widowed Aussie transplant with two children (Janey and Troy) appears laid-back, but looks are deceiving. Beckett has his hands full with Janey’s hostile attitude towards any woman who is not her mum and Troy a sweet child longing for positive “mother-like” attention. Both children are dealing with emotional baggage from the lose of their mum and moving to a new country.
Luckily Quinn is such an intelligent, patient woman who understands the children’s needs, unluckily Quinn has NO confidence seeing herself as a desirable woman a man could want long term.
Boy, does Beckett have his work cut out for him. Convince Quinn she is what he wants, make Janey understand that loving another woman does not mean he loves or misses her deceased mum less. Thankfully Troy is “Pro-Quinn” that just leaves dealing with Quinn’s stern father, Cash, and her efficient, stylish mother Bam to convince Quinn she is important to him. Throw in the suspicious death of Abby, Beckett’s deceased wife and a dog named Bacon and you have a Rosalind James book!
Once again, Rosalind pulls at every heart string and emotion. Her characters descriptive buildups are extraordinary. The mystery was like a wave in the ocean forming, forming, forming, and crashing to the shore once the cause of death was exposed. An emotional journey of mourning, learning, reawakening, and love.
Narrator Emma Wilder is WONDERFUL! She is spot-on with all her character's voices.
A wonderful new addition to the Sinful, Montana series!

Entertaining Book, Superior Narration

I read Born to Sin in its written incarnation and then listened to it a few weeks later as an audiobook. I can honestly say that this is one book that really came alive for me when I listened to it, a great testament to Emma Wilder’s acting. She had very good material to start with as Rosalind James has delivered another heartfelt (and spicy) book about finding love, whether for the very first time or a second time following the tragic death of a life partner. The two main characters are strong and engaging. I enjoyed the interactions between Quinn and Troy, though was occasionally a bit uncomfortable with the frank discussions between Beckett and his 11 year old daughter. I wish Janey had been 12, not just because of that but also because her behavior in general seemed that silly year more advanced. A minor point.

There was a mystery towards the end of the book that, while entertaining, seemed a bit out of place. That said, I really enjoyed it.

Emma Wilder has done a superior job with the reading of this book. She truly brought the book alive for me.

This book is well worth listening to for anyone who enjoys a good romance. Rosalind James will be over-the-moon while reading it. Four and a half stars.

Book 4 of the Sinful, Montana series

This book takes place in the small town of Sinful, Montana. It is the story of Quinn Jeffries, judge in Sinful and former Olympic Gold medal swimmer, and sexy Australian widower Beckett Hughes and his adorable two children, Janey and Troy.

This is a love between Quinn and Beckett, and the love that develops between Quinn and Beckett’s two children.
One of the best inclusions in the story is Quinn’s friendship with the women and men in the running group known as the BlisterSisters and the BlisterMisters. We get to revisit the wonderful local vet Ezra Hamill and Ezra’s husband, the fabulous Martin Avondale, who we have met in prior Sinful, Montana books. The dating information that they give Quinn is priceless.

As many of Rosalind James’ books are, this book is narrated by the superlative Emma Wilder. Ms. Wilder is one of my favorite narrators in any genre. One of the most enjoyable parts is the breakup between Quinn and her former boy friend Dr. Craig. It almost had me on the floor laughing. The reading is so realistic you can see it happen.

While this book is book for of the series it also would be enjoyable to read as a standalone book. I’m hoping there will be another follow up book. Would love to see Terrell find his happily ever after.

Small town, Single Dad Romance

Rosalind James is a favorite author of mine. She writes heart engaging storylines and complex characters. Beckett and Quinn had heartbreaking pasts to overcome. The way they interacted was heartwarming, especially with the children. I got so emotionally invested and immersed myself into their world.

At the same time, there were some irritations in this book for me. Eleven, almost twelve, year olds should not be having some of the conversations they were having regarding sex. There are always exceptions, I realize. But was this one of those times? Add the way she was speaking to her father!? Unfortunately it brought me out of my book haze thinking about real life. Ugh.

Emma Wilder is an excellent narrator. She has an easy to listen to voice and performs with emotion. It was perfection.

Wonderful story with great narration

Born to Sin is book four in the Sinful, Montana Series and for me Quinn Jeffries and Beckett Hughes entertaining and steamy journey is a great addition to this series.
Emma Wilder did a great job with the narration bringing the characters and the story to life. Her voice was easy to listen to and she drew me in and captivated from the first few pages.
Quinn lives life by the rules she the judge is Sinful, Montana but the one thing missing from her life is romance so she comes up with a six first dates plan and that’s when the fun begins.
Beckett has moved his kids from the other side of the world to start afresh in Sinful but this Aussie didn’t expect to find himself standing in front of the local judge who he has a history with.
Born to Sin is a beautifully written, entertaining read that left me smiling. It has wonderful characters, it’s witty, it’s funny, it’s steamy and it’s emotional and that all adds up to a great read. If you love small town romance look no further than this book and this series because I’m sure like me you will fall in love with Sinful, Montana and it’s residents.
