Publisher's summary

Like many small towns, Buffalo Valley is dying. Stores are boarded up, sidewalks are cracked, houses are in need of coats of paint. But despite all that, there's a spirit of hope here, of defiance. The few people still left here are fighting for their town.

Lindsay Snyder is a newcomer. She's an outsider even though she spent childhood vacations here. Now she returns to see the family house again, to explore family secrets, and to reevaluate her life. And soon after she arrives, she meets a local farmer named Gage Sinclair....

Lindsay decides to stay in North Dakota. Her decision marks a new beginning for Buffalo Valley and for her. Because in this broken little town, she discovers the love and purpose she's been seeking.

FIRST BUT NOT LAST!!!

This is my first novel by Debbie Macomber but it certainly won't be my last. It's also my first for narrator Carly Robins. DM and CR make a great pair! I never stopped listening once I started this novel. Loved the characters and the development of each one by Ms. Macomber. Normally I don't like endings that leave one hanging but because I know that this ending opens the door for the next in the series, I'm ok with it. I'm downloading the next in the series as we speak. So glad I found Debbie Macomber and rest assured that I will look for other books by her that are highly rated.

Worth the credit???? ABSOLUTELY!!!

Frustrating production

The story was good, but the narrator often decreased her volume at the end of sentences...so we were a bit irritated trying to figure out what the last words were...over and over and over...ugh!

Disappointing

Any additional comments?

I purchased these books because I liked the "Mrs. Miracle" movies the television stations always show in December. I thought Debbie Macomber would be another author whom I would be able to purchase sight unseen and know that I would not be subjected to a lot of sex; quite frankly, that is not my scene. I was so disappointed. There are semi-explicit sex scenes, I didn't even finish the first book. I wish I hadn't bought 3 books on impulse. Live and learn, check the book out from the library first. I wish I could return these books.

If sex scenes are your thing, but you don't want to be too explicit, then the Dakota Series books are for you.

Disappointing for this Macomber fan

I have been a Debbie Macomber fan for a long time. I really enjoyed the Cedar Cove and Rise Harbor series. But I'm sorry to say that this will be he second book I am requesting a refund if my credit for. I did finish the book, but was very disappointed I the constant fighting and making up and then more fighting between mist of the characters. I won't be seeing what happens to some if the characters because I will not be finishing the series. I will maybe read a new series from Macomber, but not this Dakota series. I read for enjoyment and this one just didn't do that for me.

Kind of depressing

All the men in this book seem to be angry all the time, and unreasonable. Granted, the women respond in kind, but all the conflict in this book makes me want to listen to something happy. I don't usually read romance, I think I'll be sticking with that plan and go back to mystery and suspense, and cozy mysteries.

Like a Hallmark movie!

I prefer “nice” romantic novels. I don’t like explicit sex scenes or when characters meet and then almost immediately jump into bed. I really enjoyed this story and liked the characters. The narrator was very good with both the female and male voices. I will definitely listen to the entire series.

Not The Best

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I guess I could say this was time well spent since the only thing I was doing at the time was driving.

Would you recommend Dakota Born to your friends? Why or why not?

No, I wouldn't. It's not the type of book I would ask them to read. It's long and drawn out. There are several story lines going on at one time and it's outdated. There seemed to be a physical spark between Gage and Lindsey but I couldn't understand how they had anything more than just that physical spark. They fought all the time, disagreed about everything, and overall were 2 very different people. The story line was flat and disappointing.

Would you be willing to try another one of Carly Robins’s performances?

I don't think so. I couldn't tell which character was supposed to be talking which made it very difficult to stay up with the story line.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No, I don't think I would.

Not as good as her other books.

I've listened to a lot of Debbie Macomber books and have enjoyed all of them with the exception of this one. The reason I say this is only because the men in the book were harsh to their women, very harsh at times. Maybe if I knew the reason Ms. Macomber wrote the book this in fashion, I could better understand. Some of the parts, especially about the young people and the new teacher were really enjoyable. So, with that said, it was an ok book that I struggled listening to but did finish.

Heartwarming

Such a heartwarming story of ranch/farming families. On to the next one in the series.
