The narration was excellent
This story takes place in 1977 and illustrates examples of the human cost of our worsening
mental illness epidemic. The epidemic involves individuals self medicating their depression with drugs and alcohol. Without treatment increasing number of lives will end in tragedies as depicted in this gritty short story.

Everyone is lost
The reading was great. The story was well -written. Since it is a short story, I could not get truly invested in any characters, but my heart was sad for so many of them. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to be a police officer, especially in a large city. Was not expecting the 2nd murder to be committed by the person who did it.

Very good!
I can’t believe this was so good for being such a brief novella. Usually I feel that characters aren’t developed and these kinds of stories feel choppy. I hope Audible does more of these. And Ed Harris was excellent.

Simple but Effective
The story is simple, smooth, easy to follow. Even if it’s full of cliches - it’s one that you can fall into. The performance is wonderful. It’s a quick listen you’re sure to enjoy.
