Publisher's summary

A Warhammer Age of Sigmar novel.

Witness the destructive forces that are on the rise in the Realm of Beasts first-hand, and see the indomitable defences of Excelsis tested like never before.

Listen to It Because

This tie-in novel coincides with the launch of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Dominion, and it brings you right up to date with the events that are taking place in the bestial realm of Ghur.

The Story

In the rain-soaked shanty towns of Excelsis, sellsword Niksar Astaboras drunkenly barters his way to a meaningless existence. Little does he care for the war that rages between men and monsters beyond the city walls, despite portents of its encroaching threat. Mortal life in the Realm of Beasts is short enough, and to leave the shelter of civilisation is to surrender to certain death.

But death is coming to Excelsis. The forces of Destruction are on the move, and the realm quakes with each thunderous step. In the wildlands, a sinister new foe overwhelms even the mighty Stormcast Eternals. Yet just as all seems lost, an unexpected champion rises – one to whom Niksar is inextricably linked – ready to lead a crusade into the very heart of darkness. Embroiled in this harrowing journey, Niksar is forced to choose between loyalty and the chance of survival, and in so doing discover his true worth in the greatest battle yet against the savage forces of Destruction.

Written by Darius Hinks. Narrated by Richard Reed.

Solid Read/Listen

Wasn’t a Warhammer fan at first, but got into the lore and was surprised by the vast catalogue to choose from. This book gets into the action and gives you what you’re looking for.

a fine read

I really liked this AOS book . this is they thing they need to keep doing. For to long these books have been sad battles that lacked characters that you can get behind . this one was a step in the right direction .

Fun but pretty woke.

Good listen, but Hinks doesn’t hesitate to make the male main character an extra in a story that’s entirely from his perspective. So the story suffers, but what else is new nowadays…

A well told story, if not a bit cliche

An enjoyable and some what exciting story based in the Mortal Realms. I think a good introduction to the setting, but not particularly surprising in any way. Still a good adventure filled with classic sword and sorcery elements.

Real close to 5 Stars… but

I would give this book 5 stars but for the fact that I was looking for a basic beginner’s book to the Age of Sigmar. I need a genesis to the Sigmar world…. A “once upon a time” story so I can begin to understand the giant universe. This story was real good and held my attention, but it still kept throwing out references and names as if I was “in the know”…. It’s like watching the HBO “Billions” and the actors keep throwing out references to Music and Bands and I have NO IDEA what the hell they are talking about, so you just are left irritated that your time is being wasted on meaningless trivia! But…. This story is still really good even if you are new to Sigmar and are totally lost (like me). I was born in 1964 and am officially the last baby boomer so that might help some of you who are my age understand my perspective. I was told by the employees at Citidel WarHammer that is was a good starter book…. Ok, well… not really, but then again I don’t know what would be at this point. If however you have a degree or masters degree in Age of Sigmar, then I’m sure this is a perfect 5 star. The narrator makes it worth the listen. That fellow did a fine job. I do recommend this book if you are an entered apprentice in Sigmar, or at least until I find a true beginners novel. But after doing a bit of research, I’m thinking that animal doesn’t exist yet.

This was AMAZING

I’ve read a lot of 40k novels from black library but this one was especially well written and creative to the utmost. It can be difficult to describe changes to an existing setting but the depictions in this book shed a lot of light on the Age of Sigmar setting at this point in time.

Very well written, loved the pacing and delivery. 5 stars

Loved it!

Excellent view into the struggle with the Kruleboyz! It takes awhile to get to the new greenskins, but when they do, it's alot of fun!
