Placeholder story - too lecture-y by far

The first hour of this book was so long-winded and lecture-y with nothing happening other than a series of different "bad guys" beating up Joe. Literally... back-to-back they each beat him up for awhile until the next one comes along and removes the one beating Joe up so they can then beat Joe up. The whole while lecturing the reader as to why this is (or, perhaps is not) a good thing.

The story does start, eventually, and it seems like there could have been a decent plot/story. The lecturing doesn't stop though... the story's forward progress is regularly interrupted for some philosophical discussion (I mean rant) - usually about socio-political activities. That, and the ending is one of the worst I've read in awhile... this story doesn't end, it just peters out. I guess we're supposed to get the next book to have some resolution?

Overall... hmmm... I think it was just on the wrong side of lecture-y. I don't know that I'm going to bother reading the next (last) in this series either because the book before this was a bit disappointing too, and they seem to be going downhill. I don't care about social commentary, Mr. Huston, just blow stuff up already - and try to keep the plot moving forward while you do.

Though I have to admit that the book contains one of the funniest lines I've heard in a long time: (I'm paraphrasing because I read this book in audio and I can't look it up) Amanda Horde says "I'm Joe Pitt. I'm here to chew some bubblegum and kick some ass. And I'm all outta bubblegum".

Maybe I'm just tired of Scott Brick's overacting? Dunno, but the narration was too dramatic for a book meant to be noir.

Dark and violent

I only made it chapter 2. It’s way too dark, depressing and violent for me. It’s not just an element of the story- it’s the foundation of the whole story. At least for as far as I read. No thanks.

the 1st was more like a thriller.

this was just a clean-up & explain how & whom & what u would've missed ifnu never read this. I like the lead character, Joe. I tend to like the villains & the supports even more so! I felt like he put more into them w/ making sure the voices r separate from his flat voiced 'Marlowe' like guy. if I hadn't grown-up w/ Humphrey Bogart I doubt that I'd appreciate this as much. just 2 clarify.. I really do like it. especially because THERE B VAMPIRES 🧛🏻‍♂️🧛🏻‍♀️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️🧛🏻‍♀️👨‍💼

I Love Joe Pitt

My Favorite series to date is the Joe Pitt Series, written by Charlie Huston and narrated by Scott Brick It is a vampyre detective series that is just the best think I have ever heard and I have a lot of audio books, about 700. Hard biting... (forgive the pun) detective fiction ala Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett written for the New York City drop back mixed in with a little Bram Stoker. Although there is a romance in the story arc, it is not a Harlequin Romance with Fangs series of books. There is Mystery, Murder and Mayhem, all with a capital ‘M’ as Joe Pitt balances his life and work between three feuding vampyre clans and humans. The great thing is that all 5 books have now been recorded and you can listen to them in order. Wonderful books and Scott does a fantastic job narrating them, and in many instances he becomes Joe Pitt.

Love Charlie Huston

Book 4 of the Joe Pitt series is another great continuing story. I really like the way Charlie writes, in all his books always great dialogue and storyline with great characters. In Every Last Drop Scott Brick does a master full job with all the different voices. I especially like his Terry Bird voice, totally enjoyable listening. If you have not read any of Charlie's books, I would suggest you check him out. Highly recommend.

Ugly

What disappointed you about Every Last Drop?

I just can not stand an ugly, down of life and luck. Never making it! Never showing better time or better attitude.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I plan to move to "review my great remarkable vampires who love, conquer, an triumphant. Even read more about Druids, true suspense with bad boys not tarnished with pity poor excuses of weak forms of vampires.

What didn’t you like about Scott Brick’s performance?

Monotonous!

I could say that the stories tied together even though I tried each one , they individually stunk.
