Publisher's summary

Ask around your local VFW about what a military police soldier does for a living. The answers will make you laugh, cringe, and sometimes simply lean back at the nonsensical tales we evoke from our comrades in arms. Even to the standard military police soldier, their experiences from one to the next are largely different depending on any number of influences. Whether that is duty station, deployments, or specific type of military police.

In this book, you will see the far edge of the combat spectrum for a military police soldier. Every so often, military police get training that enables them to be attached to units conducting missions well outside the purview of a standard military police soldier. For those soldiers, their story goes largely untold. Whether due to the incredulity of the story or because some stories are hard to talk about. The events in this book are told exactly as they happened. Some have been modified due to security concerns and for the privacy of comrades.

Ghosts of the Valley gives a full spectrum recount of the incidents that took place in Afghanistan and the recovery process that became necessary upon return to the peace of home. The book itself will hopefully serve as a benefit to soldiers who have not yet deployed, civilians who struggle to understand the average combat veteran, and the soldiers who have redeployed that still struggle in their recovery process. The book is not meant to glorify war, but to expose the horrors of it. Ghosts of the Valley also provides a comprehensive and up-to-date (as of the publication) list of resources for those struggling with PTSD or those who simply need help.

Great Read/Listen!

Once I got started I couldn’t stop listening. I have the hardest time trying to sit still while reading which causes me to lose focus. Once I noticed the Audible was available I was instantly hooked. Not only does this book place me within his experiences, it makes me feel apart of it thru his experience in great detail. The book brings up some real serious points that Soldier face daily while also making some comical points to help alleviate tension to make the reading experience that much better. I’ve always heard stories of Sean Ambriz, but they don’t compare to the way it’s told by him. Great read, would recommend to anyone.

Phenomenal

A true story of valor and growth. Sean's depictions of his experiences not only while deployed but also his military service as a leader are truly inspiring. I would recommend that anyone, veteran or civilian, take the time to read or listen to his book to gain a better understanding of the things service members go through overseas and at home. I will definitely be listening to I again and hope Sean has plans to write another.

I first read this book at Fort Leanardwood

It was the first book I purchased when allowed to during MP basic training in 2021. This book was one of the first things that motivated me to become an NCO and stick with the core. Now I’m an NCO in the 127th on rotation overseas with my soldiers and I listened to this again in the field. Man this hit hard a second time at this point in my career. I think this is must read/listen for those who are interested in the MP Corps and for those wanting to become an NCO.

Compelling -A Must Listen

If you are going to listen to a book on Afghanistan THIS IS IT! I could not turn it off until I finished the book. Sean’s story is compelling and gives the reader a realistic look into the horrors of combat from an individual Soldier perspective. I became immersed in the storyline found myself both laughing and horrified.
