Publisher's summary

Lady Emilia St. John has loved Alexander Marsden, the Earl of Devon, for as long as she can remember. Unfortunately, he also doesn't seem to notice her. She's more than aware of his roguish behavior, and hopes to use that to her advantage. It's time for him to realize they are meant to be together, and she's willing to seduce him to achieve her goal.

Alex does notice Emilia, and he wishes he didn't. She grows lovelier each day and his desire for her grows, but he doesn't believe he's worthy of her. He's done a lot of dark and wicked things. Em deserves better than the likes of him, and he intends to keep her at arms length. Until the mischievous minx gives him no choice.

They're forced to share a car on a train to the countryside. The night they spend together changes everything...and nothing. Alex has a decision to make, and Emilia might not like what he chooses to do.

The Train to Scotland

Lady Emilia St. John has loved Alexander Marsden, Earl of Devon, for years, but that love is unrequited. Alexander doesn’t feel he is good enough for her and persistently turns her away, even when she tries to seduce him. Enough is enough. Emilia decides the best thing for her to do is move on. When Alexander finds Emilia on the train to Scotland, will he finally wake up? This is a quick story with a reluctant hero and a frustrated heroine. There is some tension, a bit of humor, and snarky banter. The narration is well-done and enjoyable.

Sweet Regency Romance!

This is the sixth novella in the Marsden Descendants Series, a Regency Romance. I love this series! Emilia and Alex's story is beautifully written, sweet, and engaging. I liked the humor, and the banter. Nicola F. Delgado did an excellent job bringing this story to life. I enjoyed it. If you like short regency romance, this series definitely is for you. Lady Emilia St. John and Alexander Marsden

Emilia has been attracted to Alexander for years, but she is firmly in the friend zone. Realizing he is just never going to be hers, she decides to move on. However, when he sees other guys going after her, he realizes the chance he lost, and wants her. The story was a bit funny at times. Characters well developed. The narration was well done. His Mischievous Minx!

"His Mischievous Minx" is the sixth story in the "Marsden Descendants" series. It is a fairly short and quick read/listen and can be enjoyed as a stand alone read. It does have connected characters and family members. This story is about Lady Emilia and Alexander, the Earl of Devon. She has been in love with him for a very long time but he has not shown any mutual feelings. She has just declared that she will try to move on when she stumbles on him while he seems to be in his cups. His words and action give her hope only to be dashed by his rejection and to further push her away. I wanted to slap him upside the head and say make up your mind and quit your stupidity. I was glad she finally had had enough but I think it should have happened sooner. The end result worked.

Emily & Alexander, another great story

Book six of the Marsden Descendants series. Lady Emilia St. John and Alexander Marsden, the Earl of Devon's story these two will have a lot of ups and downs as they work toward their happy ending. Another great steamy story in this series. I enjoyed listening to Nicola F. Delgado narrate their story.

Choice

This is Emilia and Alex's story. He wants her, but won't let any man have her, but what happens when they are on the train? What will Emilia do to have him? Can he still hold back?.

No Character or Romance Development

I have read this author often over the last few years. Sometimes I really enjoy her books; other times they completely miss the mark. This novella is closer to the latter. For one thing, it is very short, just 2 hours 41 minutes in audiobook format. Novellas, especially ones that short, can suffer from several faults, including info dumping, not showing enough of the romance aspect of the story, and focusing on too wide of a time span for such a short book. This particular book's faults include jumping in the way toward the end of the romance. In fact, one can almost say the author started the story at their dark moment all romances must have. Authors actually need to build up the relationship beforehand, or else we won't really care about the dark moment, or frankly, the characters! Yes, she does give us a brief scene that happened before the main part of the book, but you truly didn't get an idea even from that scene about any true relationship that may have gone before between them. All we learn is their attraction and supposed love (unspoken), without knowing why or how they got there.

This book takes place in 1920, an unusual choice both for this author and historical romance. However, most aspects of the story—other than the mention of a car and the use of a train as transportation—did not seem to really take place in that year or the period of peace between the two World Wars. Even the cover looks more as though it is a Regency romance. Her dress in no way reflects the fashion of 1920! The story itself seems far more old-fashioned as well, with most parts except for the end seeming to go more with Regency romance as it is written by contemporary authors—which the author does write—than what the world was like post World War I (or they would have called the Great War).

No matter the historical time frame, what happened between the hero and heroine on the train ride to Scotland is just ridiculous, in my view. Seriously, after they were both rude and dismissive of each other when they first realized they would be sharing the train ride, it’s hard to make the leap that all they will do for the entire rest of the ride is “get it on”! Wildly inappropriate for a historical romance, a “maiden” heroine, and for what we had seen of the characters prior and the smidgen of character and romance development we had seen earlier in the book.

The audiobook’s only bright side was the narrator, who did a great job voicing the characters, including making them distinct and doing great accents for the foreign characters. However, that is not quite enough for me to recommend this book, unless you like historical train intimate scenes and are willing to put up with absolutely no development of the romantic plot before things get steamy.
