Publisher's summary

When Lee Barrett spots the same style oak bureau she once had as a child on the WICH-TV show Shopping Salem, she rushes to the antiques shop and buys the piece. Just like the beloved bureau she lost in a fire, this one has secret compartments. It also comes with an intriguing history: It was purchased in an estate sale from a home where a famous local murder took place. The day after the bureau is delivered, Lee returns to the antiques shop and finds the owner dead. The police suspect the shop owner's unscrupulous business partner, but Lee wonders if the murder is connected to her new furniture. At least part of the answer may be revealed through a mirror in the bureau; it's tarnished and blackened, allowing Lee to tap in to her psychic visions. Using this bureau of investigation, Lee may be able to furnish her policeman beau with the evidence needed to catch the killer - before the next one to be shut up is her.

a fun read

I accidentally started with the third book however it works well enough as a stand alone. It's a little over detailed and repetitive of some points, but otherwise an enjoyable cozy mystery. I'm definitely getting more in this series.

Odd Narration

This is fine, although the heroine calling her stomach her "tummy" is an example of some of the ways in which the characters seem silly, like grown up children. But I don't mind that much. What does detract from the book is the way the narrator speaks with an odd clipped cadence. She has a strange way of "lilting" a question, with the rise in the middle of a word rather than at the end. It's actually a good match for the somewhat childish characters, but I find it off-putting.

I know this kind of observation is off-topic for a mystery novel of this type, but it's enough to bother me. I have listened to all of the books in this series, so clearly it doesn't stop me, but I'd never binge listen to them. There is too much here that seems discordant to me to be truly enjoyable.

Each one better than the last

Really enjoyed the third book in the series. The standalone characters were fun, and the regular characters are getting more and more fleshed out each go around. Marilee is once again in the center of a murder investigation, only this time there are two murders- one present and one past- that need solving.

One issue that I have is that the narrator sometimes talks to slow and over pronunciates. She can almost sound robotic at times, other times her tone is light and fits well.

Already started book 4!

Love the Witch City Mysteries

Would you listen to Look Both Ways again? Why?

I have actually listened to all 3 books several times. Each time I pick up an additional tidbit that I missed earlier.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love River/Lee, Aunt Ibby/Mr. Pennington, Lee/Pete, Lee/Aunt Ibby and O'Ryan Is awesome.

What does C. S. E Cooney bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I really enjoy her narration, and feel the characters come alive while I am listening.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I always laugh, especially with the antics of O'Ryan.

Any additional comments?

Love these books and can't wait for the next installment.

Wow, having a hard time narrowing it down to one! Paranormal

like it all. The story kept me hooked from beginning. The narrator was geat. If you like a good mystery, a clean story this is for you. Oh I must not forget the auntie and the wonderful cat.
Thanks for the entertainment.
