Publisher's summary

Kathleen Grady has faced hardship - and overcome it - at nearly every turn. Whether it's the death of her betrothed at sea or the fight with her tyrannical brother for what's rightfully hers, she has struggled for so long that can't remember what peace in her soul even feels like.

But when the chance to become the wife of a stranger, a homesteader in a new world called Montana, presents itself, Kathleen must decide if leaving Ireland for America will give her the escape she desperately needs, or will only throw her into even more danger?

Great story not so much on the narrator

A little bit of adventure, danger, and romance, with a good plot that's short, sweet , well written, keeps your attention. Likable characters.

I didn't care to much for the narrator, the audio seemed to drag at times, there is a little background noise from time to time. I liked a few of his characters, there was no repeating of words.

Entertaining and Enjoyable

Any additional comments?

Entertaining and enjoyable good clean historical western romance with a little bit of mystery and suspense.

Agreeing to become a Mail Order Bride Kathleen sets out for America. Leaving Ireland and fleeing her tyrannical brother she wants nothing more than to start a new life and live in peace. Her brother Finn is not going to let her go so easily. From the moment Kathleen arrives in Montana her dreams of marrying Joss are in jeopardy. Her brother has beat her to Montana and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Charles D. Baker does a pretty good job with the narration. Some of his character voices are very good. There were also a couple that I didn't care for. Nice character accents. Gravelly western voice that fits the story. Overall an enjoyable listen. There are several times throughout the story where you can hear background noises such as pages turning or a creaking chair.

Enjoyable Romantic Story

If you’ve listened to books by Amelia Rose before, how does this one compare?

I have never read any books by Amelia Rose. I will definitely listen to her other books in this series.

What three words best describe Charles D. Baker’s performance?

Engaging, consistent, unique

Was Mail Order Bride Kathleen worth the listening time?

This was the first time I've listened to a western historical romance. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, but was pleasantly surprised that I did. The story was sweet and romantic. I fell in love with both Joss and Kathleen.

Go Kathleen!

Dear reader,

Kathleen is running away from Ireland. You'd too, if you had a brother like Finn! You'll find out exactly how mean he is... and now Kathleen has to fight for her future, her love AND her life! She's got some heavy baggage - will her husband-to-be take her in?

Also, prepare for the fiery entry of Mrs. Carrington! Kathleen meets a wonderful array of characters in Montana and this lady absolutely delivers :D Her speeches will totally uplift you thanks to great dialogue and Charles D. Baker, who gives her a perfect voice.

This was my first romance novel from Amelia Rose (I went on and listened to another three right away). Very nice, neat piece. It's a perfect length for a peaceful afternoon when you're just listening and playing match-three games on your phone (yup, I do that ;)) or even for a Saturday morning whilst tidying up (I do that too ;)) It will show you the reality of the society and lives of mail order brides in wonderful detail.

My only pet peeve: the album cover. The lovely lady on it does not look like my idea of a 19th century Irish lady prepared to live as a homesteader. Also, Kathleen gets wildflowers from Joss, not roses :)

Give Kathleen a listen!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Carrington's biggest fan

Another winner

Another winner. I love these historical mail order bride romances. Kathleen runs west to Montana to get away from her brother Finn. He is controlling and wants to keep her dowry. Kathleen just wants to get married and be free of Finn. She agrees to marry Joss, and when she arrives, Joss is there waiting to take her away, knowing her brother is already there trying to find her. There are some suspenseful moments that Finn is at the root of, but the immediate bond between Joss and Kathleen is too strong for Finn to win. Maggs and Declan are back from book one playing an important role in this book as well, making you fell like you are coming home. You can't help but love Joss, he is quite a man!

Charles D baker again brings us the wonderful Irish brogue to the story.
