Carl was a regular construction foreman. Not the worst, not the best, and definitely not the thinnest. Even so, he didn't deserve that heart attack! He really didn't deserve being reborn into a dog-eat-dog world as a dragon. To be fair, it’s nice to be at the top of the food chain. Now Carl just needs to learn how magic works, which monsters are safe to eat, and why his hoard is so important to him. Dealing with change is hard enough, but he has enemy dragons incoming, hostile environments, and foes constantly trying to get bragging rights by taking down a dragon.

Mantalantis by Ross Hughes, narrated by Brian Callanan, is a mesmerizing underwater fantasy brimming with intrigue and magic. Hughes' masterful storytelling transports you to a city on the back of a giant manta ray, where secrets and supernatural forces abound. Mantalantis: An Underwater Fantasy, my nineteenth read from author Ross C. Hughes. A 14-hour 8-minute/445-page mythical creatures fantasy read. “I received an Audible copy of this book & already owning the Kindle copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving a re-read review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

A Gripping Fantasy
This was my first experience with Ross Hughes' work, and it was fascinating. "Mantalantis" was a city that rested on the back of a manta ray as it glided through the water, but it was a city that was in great difficulty. The worldbuilding was extensive. I liked the characters and the creative beings which populated the world. There was plenty of action. I thought the magic system was inventive, and I liked that there were rules to it. Brian Callanan's narration was fantastic, and his performance added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review which included my opinions.
