Publisher's summary

A balanced account of game changes, conflicts and ambitions. The fall from popular grace of the previously adulated brother of the heir to the British throne as a consequence of his marriage to a beautiful and dynamic Hollywood starlet of colour makes for fascinating listening in best-selling royal author Lady Colin Campbell's balanced account.

Lady Colin knows her royal history and psychology, and as the first seven years of her adult life were spent in the USA, she has a foot in both the American and British camps. With unique breadth of insight she goes behind the scenes, speaking to friends, relations, courtiers, and colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic to reveal the most unexpected royal story since the Abdication.

She highlights the dilemmas involved and the issues that lurk beneath the surface, as to why the couple decided to step down as senior royals. She analyses the implications of the actions of a young and ambitious couple in love with each other and with the empowering lure of fame and fortune.

She leads the listener through the maze of contradictions, revealing how Californian culture has influenced the couple's conduct. She exposes how they tried and failed to change the royal system by adapting it to their own needs and ambitions and, upon failing, how they decided to create a new system altogether.

Enlightening

First and foremost I am not a MM fan. I find this book to be written in truth and depicts the facts better than I have read from others. It has also given me a better insight to how I thought of P Di. I was a fan of hers and this book made me look at things through British culture. I feel that MM is a egotistical person to the extreme and has enough smarts to fake the whole rest of her life. PH mistake was to fall in love with her. Thanks for more insight to there like since the got together

Real insight!

Lady C provides context and reason behind the allegations levied by H&M and reveals them for the fame hungry people they are.

Well written and well narrated

This book gives a clear understanding of the problems between MM and the royal family. There's no sensationalism, just easy to understand examples of MM's unacceptable, unkind and self serving behavior. It's a good case study of a narcissist as well as a rather sad tale for those people left in MM's wake.

Love the reader!

I really really really wanted to like this book. I’m not a huge Megan or Harry fan, but this book seemed just rude. She gave Meghan the worst motives ever for any decision she ever made or thing she did. She repeatedly, and I mean, repeatedly, called Harry dumb or “lack in the intellect “and the main thesis was that Harry is too dumb to recognize that Megan is manipulating him. (Blow Job Harry). The author also CONSTANTLY picked at Meghan calling herself “classy” and having an instagram account. OH! Then a bunch of weird complaints on feminism, equal marriages, “woke”ness, etc.

There were far too many out-of-pocket slights like that to call this the “real” anything. If you want to hate on Meghan Markle & say “research says” this is the book for you!!

BUT!!!! I loved the reader’s voice so much I listened to the entire book and when I can’t sleep I put it on again. Mmmm.. I love it. 10 of 5 stars for the reader Lucinda Bell Howard.

Excellent Book

Great book. Very well written. Very engaging, insightful and entertaining. Lady C shares her opinions on many topics and always provides facts to support them, whether it's British press, British culture or British Royal history. The story of Meghan Markle is quite fascinating. We'll see how her life will unfold, but now I think I understand her much better than before, thanks to Lady C.

Megain

Great book!! Being from England, and living here and abroad, I welcomed Megan wholeheartedly along with everyone else, so happy that Harry found his true love. If you want to know the real Megan, listen to this book. However, it wasn’t long before she showed her true self. The dislike of Megan in England now isn’t because of her race, the majority of people were so happy for her to join the RF, but because of her plotting character. Megan was on the make from the very beginning. She is a narcissist, who was looking for a rich husband and found a lonely Prince and a Title! She was initially loved by the British people but, oh how we were fooled! This book is very accurate regarding Royal etiquette and protocol , which Megan despised. She adores her Duchess title and wields it like a sword. But, she didn’t like that she married the spare and was much less important in the hierarchy and therefore couldn’t call the shots. She was required to follow the direction of the Firm (Queen) who calls the shots. She was required to follow protocol and failed miserably. She has been “fact checked” over and over and found to be less than truthful in her claims and statements and has been a slanderous vindictive woman who quit after 18 months and returned to the U.S. because she didn’t like taking direction. Here in the states, with her married title as Duchess, she swans around like she’s something special and the Americans fell for it. Shame on her for trashing the royals, who welcomed her warmly, and tried over & over to give her opportunities, (The huge Commonwealth patronage) not normally awarded to a minor royal and tried to train her about Royal culture and expectations, Once she had that ring on her finger she rejected it all. Very accurate portrayal.

Enlightening!

Very interesting. excellent writing! My only criticism is that is that, in analysis of this pair, there was a good amount of repetition. But even so. good read !.
