Publisher's summary

Grieving the death of his partner, Theo Bosco has no room in his life for distractions. Though his instincts scream that he should avoid Juliet "Jules" Jackson, he can't seem to stay away. It doesn't help that Theo's new K9 companion has fallen head over paws with Jules's rambunctious family.

Or that when he's with her, Theo finally knows peace.

When Jules rescued her siblings, whisking them away to the safety of the beautifully rugged Colorado Rockies, she never expected to catch the eye - or the heart - of a cop. Yet as Jules struggles to fight her growing attraction to the brooding K9 officer, another threat lurks much closer to home...

And this time, there's no escape.

Worse Narrator ... Good story as Usual

What did you like about this audiobook?

Katie Ruggle books always leave the actual ending somewhat of a surprise. This book is a great thriller and keeps your attention towards finding out what happens next. The subtle love plot is always a bonus but never over the top and only adds a soft touch to the suspense portion of the plot.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

This author does a great job of bouncing back and forth in the beginning chapters to show the back story of how Jules got to CO and why.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

The Narrator.... sounds like a choppy computer... makes me dizzy listening. Most of the sentences are blocked... and not fluid. It is hard to get into the rhythm of the story. The only good thing that this narrator does is stutter for Sam, hence the choppy parts.

Do you have any additional comments?

The book would be so very much better with Rachel Dulude presenting.

Katie Ruggle

I love Katie Ruggle. For the most part she is completely believable. I would have preferred to go without the explicit sexual scenes and stick to the dog heroics, but its a good book and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Loved this story

I thought this was an interesting storyline. Something a little different.

The narrator was good, except for the part of Sam...that was a bit annoying.

Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Longer than it needs to be

I was expecting more action but instead found this book to be quite repetitive. It takes nearly 4 hours before anything actually happens, even then, it's really slow and there's just way too much internal dialogue. In an action scene where someone is trying to escape, I want to know what happens, not two minutes of internal commentary on where the exit might be. In addition to all this, Jules and Theo don't really talk much, other than admiring each other from across the room and in their heads, plus a few stunted conversations, their romance seems a bit high school.
And like all this isn't bad enough, the narration is flat at best and oddly choppy at worst.

Edit* I appreciate the longer setup in this book a lot more after listening to the rest of the series, and we get to know all the characters a lot better in the other books

The story is good.

The story is good. The narration not so good. It’s bad enough that she apparently thinks southern people speak really quickly but the stuttering brother is beyond awful. Has she never heard a stutter before? You stutter out not in. This boy sounds like he is having an asthma attack every time he stutters. So annoying.

Love Katie’s books BUT...

Callie Beaulieu destroyed this book for me. She made everyone sound like they have speech impediments or are somehow mentally disabled. Fortunately I have read Katie’s books so not finishing the audiobook was no loss. I will not recommend listening to or using Callie Beaulieu as a narrator

Good Suspense, bad narration

The story was entertaining but the dog should have had a larger role. Interesting plot line but the narration grated on my nerves. The pace of the narration was way to fast. The narrator needs to slow down and only use the "excited, breathy" tones for the appropriate times not the bulk of the story. Especially annoying when the main characters are supposed to have a southern drawl.

Unexpected story line

Interesting story line from a different perspective on all of the characters. I enjoyed it because of the different twists but needed a bit more clarity. Maybe the next book

Run baby, run!

Story gets 3.5*s
Narration gets 3, this narrator just doesn’t do the story justice.

Jules and her family are on the run from an evil stepmom and a life that’s nothing but heartache and fear. They’ve moved to Monroe Colorado, a sleepy little town where every one knows everyone.

They try to get settled in, move on and to keep out of trouble... however trouble keeps popping up on them. K9 office Theo Bosco is also, always there. There is something about Jules that just pulls him in. He and his K9 Viggy grow to love Jules and her family.

When danger strikes, and Jules and her family are out in the line of fire, it’s up to Theo and Vig to save them.... or they’ll all be lost.
