Publisher's summary

After growing up as an orphan, Josiah English wants nothing more than to have his own ranch and raise Arabian horses. Riding for the Pony Express seems like the ticket to his dream. And when he meets the stationmaster's beautiful sister, it seems he may be within reach of the happy life he craves.

Mara Reid is thrilled to finally meet the man of her dreams, and the fact that they both want to raise horses in the Sweetwater River valley seems like confirmation straight from God.

But when the Express shuts down and Mara's family home is in peril, the danger looming over Mara's life may not be half as destructive as that threatening her heart.

Great romance as the Old West started

A wonderful beginning to a new series of sweet romance
Author has developed some very likable characters who are living in a very hard world that is part of the life of someone that is involved in the expansion to the western part of the USA.. A great story line in which romance is able to come about.
I thought it was great to read all about the details of how the pony express was run as a side to the romance..
The narration was well done and made it easy to get lost in the good story..

A delightful Christian western romance!

Both writing and narration are five stars for this book as the author takes the reader back in time to the final days of the Pony Express and a romance between an express rider and a woman who helps manage one of the stations.

Sweet Christian Romance

This is a story about love, forgiveness, and redemption. It’s centered around a real historical Pony Express Outpost near Sweetwater. Three adult siblings operate it now that their father has died. The new rider assigned to the outpost is drawn to the sister and they soon fall in love but troubles arise and the rider leaves abruptly.
There are many life lessons written into the story, some with scriptures. It wasn’t too “preachy” but could be too much for a person not into that. I enjoyed the book. I did, however, deduct a star from the narrator. His accent is perfect for the time period but his voices weren’t all distinct.

Heartwarming

Josiah English works hard at his job as a Pony Express rider in order to make enough to fulfill his dream of owning his own ranch. When he meets Mara at his home station and begins to fall in love he feels like his dreams may finally be coming true. However as he discovers life isn’t quite that easy. When The Pony Express is shut down his confidence in himself wanes and he decides to leave to find work elsewhere. Unfortunately his leaving leaves Mara heartbroken and feeling betrayed. Mara and Josiah are separated for four years and it is inspiring to see how they turn to God for strength. When Josiah returns it takes awhile for Mara to trust in him again. I found this an interesting story and learned more about how life was for the riders of the Pony Express and those who manned the stations and trained and cared for the horses the Pony Express riders rode. It was a lovely love story and was real and believable. There were some unexpected twists in the story that kept it interesting as well. Paul Curtis is an absolute joy to listen to as he brings the characters to life with his exceptional narration. I look forward to listening to him take us on the next journey in book 2 of the Wyoming Mountain Tales. I received a free copy of this audiobook and have voluntarily provided an unbiased review.

Enjoyable Romance in Bountiful Country

Josiah takes a job as a Pony Express rider and meets Mara at the station he rides out of. She teaches him to be a better rider, but more than that, she begins to heal the deeper wounds he’s suffered in his life. But that’s only the beginning…

What I enjoyed about this romance is the longer term scope of the story. These characters have a long journey of transformation ahead, with injuries, betrayal, threats from hostile Indians, and even more surprises on top of that. This romance weaves through the gamut of human emotions to a beautiful conclusion that will leave you happily satisfied—and waiting to hear more about all the folks at the Sweetwater Station.

Slow, Sweet & Clean

This sweet western romance could have been told in 2 hours less time, but it is worth the listen. Plenty of challenges in the Old West for the protagonists in the Pony Express days, and setbacks too. However, with Faith they mostly prevail (no spoilers!).
