Publisher's summary

Davey’s rule number 86: A good Daddy will never lie to his boy...even by omission.

Travis Miller has a pretty solid life in the small California beach town he calls home. He’s working his way up in the district attorney’s office, he owns a home with an ocean view, and he has close ties with his family. Life is good. If only he could find a sweet boy to call his own, life would be...perfect.

Adam Nichols’ life has never been easy. Growing up in foster care taught him to be strong, so finding himself in a violent relationship was a shock. Now that he's finally free of it, he faces new problems. He's jobless, homeless, and terrified of starting from scratch.

With a little help from an old friend, Adam discovers a whole new world. He goes from rock bottom to renting a room from a hot assistant DA and working at Daddy’s Lap, a kink club that opens his vanilla eyes to things he’d never imagined. His new roommate is a balm to Adam’s damaged soul. The tender way Travis cares for him is almost like the daddy kink community he’s seen at the club. But Travis isn’t a daddy...right? If he were, surely he’d have said so.

What happens when a lie by omission threatens to bring their budding relationship tumbling down around them? Will Travis ever be able to earn Adam's trust again?

This is the first book in a new series about not-so-perfect daddies, adorable “boys”, and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book. Possible trigger for references to domestic violence.

Great start to a new series

Other then what happened in the beginning, we didn't see the actual beating, this was a sweet low angst fun read. I love Daddy kink and we had it in spades here. Adam finally leaves his abusive boyfriend after 1 to many times Zach puts his hands on him. Thinking he has no where to go, he makes contact with a roommate from college, Davey, who opens his home to him. I absolutely loved Davey & all of his 80+ rules. I can't wait for him get his own story. I also hope that Preston gets his own book as well, even though he is an obnoxious brat, I think their is story behind him. I also loved Bryan, Travis' brother, who I think could take either boy in hand. Anyway, getting back to our MC's. Adam ends up staying with Davey for awhile & gets a job at the kink club that Davey is a bartender at. Boy does the place open up Adam's eyes & gets him thinking about things he never really thought about before. I absolutely loved the littles. Mickey was so cute & I wanted to sit down & color with him. Travis is a caring Daddy looking for a boy of his own. When he hears about Adam's situation, he offers a room in his home. We then get to see them go from housemates to friends to lovers. When a miscommunication sends Adam running, Travis finally realizes that Adam is the one. I loved the book & I can't wait for more.

Michael Pauly returns to be better than ever to wow listeners with his vocal versatility that it sounds like an entire cast of narrators. He manages to bring this audiobook to life, making it hot, funny and very entertaining. His voice was much smoother, my eardrums can confess of it.
Travis and Adam's story was beautiful and believable. It is not unique, but circumstances around the pair and the gentle way Travis approached Adam grabbed my attention.

I was thoroughly entertained and I am looking forward to the rest of this series. The boy-daddy play was not overdone and I can certainly see the appeal to this kind of kink. Usually I'm kind of irritated with the little's, but found it was tastefully done. I also appreciate the extra education weaved so subtle between the lines, so we learn and get to know the kink.
I love Davey's rules there are 89 rules and the list is growing. They are very funny and I suspect Travis's brother may end up ticking all those boxes.

My favourite rule is rule 29, I couldn't stop laughing at the ridiculousness of it." Daddy must never ever wear green or orange, Daddy is neither a leprechaun or inmate."

This is a definite relisten for me. I do recommend this audiobook when you are in the mood for a M/M romantic comedy.
Happy Listening

Enjoyed!

I enjoyed reading Rules to Follow. I found both mc's to be likeable and interesting. Adam is so sweet and young and Travis was the perfect Daddy he never knew he needed.
These two are perfect together. I'm looking forward to the next one in this series. Michael Pauley does an outstanding job of bringing these characters to life.

Sweet story

This was a sweet story and I enjoyed it very much. Daddy kink books are a hit or miss for me and Rules to Follow was definitely a Hit, not too sweet, a bit funny with some very tender moments. I liked the slow development of Adam and Travis relationship and Davey was interesting side character, cannot wait for his story. Narrator did a good job with all the voices and the story. This was a prefect listening experience, highly recommend for readers who enjoy their romance sweet with no angst.

Fantastic!

I absolutely loved this! There is some drama, lots of humor, tons of sweetness and a good dose of daddy kink. The characters are loveable and pull you in. The story interesting and easy to read. And I can not wait for the next book.

Loved it

Davy’s rules are just too funny! He is a great friend to Adam when Adam needs home most. After a failed date between Davy and Travis, Adam ends up moving in with Daddy Travis. Of course Adam doesn’t know he is a Daddy at the club he is now working at...so yes the story is predictable, but I still really enjoyed it!

Performance made the book so much more

When Adam left his violent, abusive relationship, he was terrified of starting over, jobless and homeless, so called his former roommate Davey, a bartender at Daddy's Lap. When Davey tells some friends at the bar about Adam, they all jump to help him, providing a job and a placed to live. Travis, an assistant DA, offers to let Adam rent a room from him. But when Travis cares for Adam like the Daddy's down at the club, Adam starts to wonder if Travis is a Daddy; but wouldn't Travis have told Adam? But will this lie of omission threaten their relationship?
I had a hard time getting into this book. I usually LOVE Susan (Susi) Hawke's books, but this one just missed for me. It started out confusing as the book summary was about Adam and Travis but the first chapter is about Davey. It was VERY confusing. Secondly, the way that some of the characters spoke was just hard to want to continue with. I enjoyed the premise of the story, and feel that it could have been much more. . However, I feel that Michael Pauley's performance was absolutely on for this book. He did a perfect job bringing forth the true characters of the book, especially Davey's sassy/brattiness and Travis' command. I read the ebook when it initially came out, and hesitated to try the audiobook when it came out as well, but I am glad that I did. Michael Pauley's performance truly made this book more of a performance and overall great story (and easier for me to follow along with). I now am looking forward to more from this series (especially if the narrator stays the same!!!)

Sweet & Awesome

A beautifully sweet daddy/boy story brilliantly brought to life by the spectacular narrator. His voice for Davey is especially fantastic! Adam finally escapes an abusive relationship and Davey takes him in. Travis is immediately drawn to Adam and just wants to take care of him. I love watching these 2 develop their very special bond as daddy/boy. Travis is exactly what Adam needs in his life and vice versa. I love how they are not only great as lovers but also as friends. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook
