Publisher's summary

She wanted to be a Necromancer, but awakened as a Saint! Somehow her summoned heroes are all undead?

How will the church react when their Saintess summons a skeleton in place of a mighty hero? Sofia isn’t too keen on finding out.

In this world, Gods choose [Saints], and [Saints] summon [Heroes] from other worlds; everyone knows that. But Sofia had a thing for bones ever since she was a child; there’s only one [Class] she wants: [Necromancer]! When, by the whims of fate, she gets both classes at the same time, the system breaks.

Two classes? That isn’t allowed!

It cannot be! The system’s administrators would not let it go… If only they were still there.

But they were not, and it was too late. Sofia saw an opportunity to abuse a loophole in the system, and she is just the kind of person who would try to stick her whole arm into said loophole if she could if only to see what happens.

So, what has the system, running by itself with its mysterious creator missing, done to mend the error? The two classes fused into one.

Sofia’s skills from the two classes were broken and mashed together. [Holy Light]? [Raise Skeleton]? What she receives is [Holy Skeleton] instead. But can she escape the Church’s grasp with her newfound powers, or is she destined to forever but some God’s pawn?

Follow Sofia as she unknowingly gets tangled in power struggles far beyond what she had bargained for.

With millions of views and thousands of followers, this was one of the most popular female-led web serials of 2023. Be ready for a wild ride as you experience the reworked and improved version of Sofia's Skeletal Shenanigans!

Break a leg, skeleton!

Solid story with a bit of cheek

good story lot of moving parts they hint at but I'm looking to uncover more as the series progresses. lots of ways this story can go, not pigeon holes into anything and points out a lot of things that happen in the little/Isekai genre without being completely melodramatic and depressed for chapters. keep up the good work. Narration is solid only wish you had stat sheet audio chapters to skip although it's a lot easier than most litrpgs

A good start, but not perfect

This lays the groundwork for what I hope will be a great story, though it is not without flaws. I like the characters and want to hear more of their tale, and none of the flaws (as I measure them), either individually or in aggregate will dissuade me from continuing the series. So while I am about to list a bunch of issues, they are the difference between 4 and 5 stars, not a condemnation.

Performance

The narrator's voice changes in volume significantly. As a vehicle for expression, it is great, but I find myself rewinding and raising the volume, then having to lower the volume later. There just isn't a happy middle ground volume where I can clearly hear the lows over the noise of driving (I tend to listen while commuting) without the loud parts rising to distortion.

There are some particularly long pauses. Long enough that I thought something went wrong with the playback.

Story / Writing

There are some things that work well in written form that don't translate well to audiobooks. Broken grammar is hard to follow without visual clues. This is important to the story, but it can be really hard to follow.

Stat blocks that take 2 seconds to visually scan can take a minute or more to narrate and don't advance the story meaningfully. They also suffer from the broken grammar problem.

There is a strong trend where the macguffin that will be needed to resolve the next plot point is acquired shortly before being needed and lost soon after fulfilling its purpose. This largely reduces the plot to a sequence of events, rather than an ongoing, living world. The characters get the same treatment; backstory is revealed typically only when it provides the solution to a problem. Details of something are "omitted" only to be revealed/discovered just in time to solve a problem. It cultivates a sense that there is no larger story or plan, that only the current plot beat is important and any world building that is established can and will be rewritten as soon as the plot calls for it.

Great fun!

This book is an absolute delight! Sofia's journey from aspiring Necromancer to an unexpected Saintess, summoning skeletons instead of traditional heroes, is filled with humor, suspense, and creativity. The fusion of her dual classes creates a unique and engaging magic system that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The narration brings Sofia's adventures to life, making you feel every twist and turn in her quest to navigate a world that isn't ready for her unorthodox powers. This story is a must-listen for fans of strong female leads, innovative magic systems, and a plot that keeps you guessing. Highly recommended!

Absolute Peak Tier Progression Fantasy!

I just absolutely loved this book, and for a lot of reasons but I will keep it short.
1) I like the quirky take on the saint/necromancer class as well as the unique skill system.
2) Creepy otherworldly entities (done as a cool subversion of typical lovecraftian tropes)
3) Fun and likeable (if some corny) characters,
4) Lot of cool and unique monsters/races
5) Love the voice actor, such an amazing job and really embody the character
Only real con: It has some overly fan servicey parts with some of the characters talking about their boobs, but I didn't take off any stars because it was very few and far between.
Enjoyed it all so much that I've been reading what the author has written on royal road yet

Focused on breadth rather than depth. . .

This story is a bit more combat focused than it is on the story, however throughout the book they do set the stage for a number of plot points and bring up key things from the MC's past that sound like they will have a pretty big impact in the future. There are a few points that the story did feel a bit slow, I had to relisten to chapters 75-78 several times, but all in all it was a pretty decent listen and the way it was structured did make the world feel pretty massive.
