Publisher's summary

Peter: You know that saying "the bigger they are, the harder they fall"? It can refer to love, too, not just kicking giant jerks in the balls for getting too handsy.

I’ve had crushes, but I’ve only fallen in love once. It was huge and all-consuming. It was also the biggest mistake of my life.

My Mr. Right turned out to be Mr. Mob Boss. I lost everything to my childish fantasies of Prince Charming the day I testified against him and was shuffled off into witness protection, never to see anyone I knew again.

So. Yeah. I don’t "do" love anymore.

And then along comes my new client, Keegan Cunningham. He’s not just Mr. Right, he’s Mr. Perfect as far as I can tell. And I can tell a lot about a person’s flaws. His just...aren’t there.

He’s an alpha without being an asshole. Rich but not a snob. Eccentric without being off-putting, and when he smiles at me...ugh, it’s the worst. Nobody can be this perfect. I thought they could once, and it was just the perfect trap. I’m not falling for it twice, not when I finally have a life worth losing again.

So why the hell can’t I stop falling for him?

Keegan: My appearances are meant to be deceiving. When you’re used to everyone having an agenda, the best defense is a good illusion. Be nothing like they expect. Like you truly are.

It’s a good defense. It’s protected me. Gotten me everything I want in life. Except love.

I have no one to blame for my own loneliness. I’m the architect of my own fortress of lies and misdirection. But then Pete DiAngelis strolls past every defense I have like it’s not even there. My answers to his questions are genuine. My compliments are real. The way my heart sings when he laughs...my god, I’m like a 12-year-old schoolgirl.

But I have responsibilities, as my parents’ heir and as an officer in the Hellion Club. I can’t afford to put one omega before all that.

But when his own secrets put him in very real jeopardy, I can’t afford not to.

How can I have anything else to lose when he is the only real thing in my life?

This tale from the Hellion Club series proves you can’t run from your past forever, but you can find a sizzling-hot alpha to face it alongside you and get that HEA. Along with all the sex you should not be listening to unless you’re 18 and up!

Love this story

I love Keegan. It’s so great to see behind the infamous character that’s shown in every book of this series. There are some editing mistakes in the narration but nothing that can’t be pushed aside.

I got a bit confused

Keegan’s story was last, so what I was wondering was how this all worked out because as far as I’ve read…. One of the first books his brother got married and had a “baby” So how on earth is he a cat havin single, childless Omega again in this 5th-6th books later?

Keegan

I adore Keegan and his many creative ways of hiding his intelligence in plain sight. I am glad he has his own story and a chance at love.

My favorite story from the Series...

Secret Family is a contemporary m/m romance with an mpreg and is part of the Helion Club series by Aiden Bates. This actually is one of my favorite stories from the series and one that sticks out in my memory and draws me back for reread. I am excited that now I get to listen to it, too.

Keegan and Pete are amazing characters. I love how everything everyone thinks of Keegan by his consciously chosen appearance is so far from the truth. He and Pete make a great couple but have to hide their status and the family they create because of the dangers that await Pete if the wrong men find him. There may be a touch of sadness that Keegan can't publically declare his love and HEA but the sweet and true connection he has with Pete is powerful and  touching no matter if the rest of the world is oblivious.

Narration is by J Warr. There were a few minor spots that could do with an edit, a repeated line is an example but the voicework was easy to listen to and fit well with the story told. Overall, it was a very enjoyable listen.

It's Not Just an MPREG Story

Omega Pete, is on the run from his abusive husband. He was put into the Witness Protection Program when he agreed to testify against him.

Alpha Keegan is a member of the infamous Hellion's Club. He has made a lot of interesting contacts there, some with the clout to help untwist familial situations. This is my favorite Hellion's Club book to date.

The narrator, J. Warr, did well with both the main characters and the secondary ones. A technical issue that had me rating the performance 4* was a reverb that made the narrator sound as though he was speaking into an old fashioned tin can. It took some time to get used to.

Great story

I really enjoyed this whole series, and absolutely loved that we got Keegan’s story as well! It’s well written and with the right amount of everything. I also liked that Peter was no pushover and put his foot down when needed.
I didn’t really like the narration. The audio sounded somewhat tinny and there was some repetition at a couple places. It wasn’t so bad, however, that you can’t sit through it.

Yes, Keegan's story!

And I loved it. When I listen to the first book of this series, I had a hard time getting to understand Keegan, but, by the end of it, I was, albeit reluctantly, liking him quite a bit. And that liking kept growing through the rest of the series, so I REALLY wanted his HEA. But this? OMG! This was beyond fantastic!

The love story, the timing of it, the suspense, all of it make this a fabulous tale :) I truly enjoyed the fact that we get to know the motives behind Keegan's behaviour and his er... less than subtle style *laughs* And I ended this loving him even more, if that's possible.

This was way beyond my expectations, and they were very high, just so you know.

J. Warr narration was good, but there were very noticeable technical issues: duplicated sentences not edited, background noises... which is a shame, as, otherwise, this would have been a perfect book.

I'm torn

I have loved Keagan through the whole series and I did enjoy this story and like that there is more than meets the eye with him. But the timeline was a little too much of a stretch for me especially the part with TY and the sheer length of time. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe if it hadn't gone back so far it would have worked better for me I dunno, it's so frustrating for me because I really did love this couple and I liked their story but the timeline confused me soo much it made listening distracting for me.

Well guess who has egg on their face!!!

That's what happens when I assumed that book 5 was the ending of the series. And low and be hold here comes book # 6. Lol Lol… Guess I won't be doing that in the future! I am glad that Keegan and Pete got their story, their were some up's and down and a few times I wondered if thing were going to get righted or not. But in the end. everything worked out. This has been a fantastic series and I have really enjoyed it. The character development, the story line and plot was so compelling and just flowed effortlessly. Mr. Bate's has a way with words that just pulls you into his books and your are right their long side his characters watching from the sidelines as to what is happening. I would recommend this series to anyone who wants to escape and just enjoy a real thrilling read! An avid listener/reader in Rock Tavern. NY.
