Publisher's summary
Despite the progress we have made, women are still faced with discrimination and bias in the workplace every day. The only way to prove our capabilities is to be great leaders!
Women have more challenges when it comes to leadership roles with gender bias being one of the biggest hurdles.
Women are either seen as dainty, proper ladies who are too quiet to lead or as the other extreme: bossy, aggressive, and unladylike.
Consequently, while women have the skills and qualifications to lead, it’s still the men who are more likely to be offered opportunities.
Now, we can talk for days about the glass ceiling and how unfair the gender gap is without really achieving anything or we can do something about it.
This audiobook will give you the tools and skills you need to excel as a leader and show others how effective women can be. Here is just a fraction of what you will discover:
- Exactly why the world needs more female leaders and what is holding women back
- Fourteen leadership styles and how to discover the best one that fits your personality
- The real reasons why women fear leadership and four ways to calm the anxiety
- How to overcome imposter syndrome and break the cycle of self-doubt
- Seven hard skills that you can gain today to demonstrate your leadership qualifications
- Ten steps to boost communication and three bonus steps for getting your point across
- How you can increase your income through emotional intelligence
- The benefits of diversity for all companies—and it’s not just about women!
- How to create a workplace culture with a growth mindset and eliminate the toxic environment
- How to manage stress when your responsibilities overwhelm you
- Twenty-five inspiring ideas to practice self-care and ensure work/life balance
And much more. Start listening today.

Story
From working as clerks and secretaries in the 1950s, women today are now holding top positions in the world’s largest corporations. Yet women remain vastly underrepresented in leadership roles, making up only 5 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs and 10 percent of top management positions in S&P 1500 companies, despite accounting for 47 percent of the labor workforce. The reason for this has nothing to do with intelligence, skills, or personality. Biases, gender expectations, and discrimination are definitely major contributing factors.

What would it be like to live in a well-rested world? Far too many of us have claimed productivity as the cornerstone of success. Brainwashed by capitalism, we subject our bodies and minds to work at an unrealistic, damaging, and machine‑level pace—feeding into the same engine that enslaved millions into brutal labor for its own relentless benefit. In Rest Is Resistance, Tricia Hersey, aka the Nap Bishop, casts an illuminating light on our troubled relationship with rest and how to imagine and dream our way to a future where rest is exalted.

Great book
The book exceeded my expectations for many reasons. I love the choice of female leader examples chosen in this book, I felt empowered, and I want to be the leader I am meant to become. As a woman of color, I loved how the author shed light on the challenges and inequalities female leaders. Each chapter has a summary that allows for reflection. My favorite chapters were overcoming fear and self-doubt, finding your voice and making it heard, diverse environment. Will recommend!!!

Praising yourself is okay
I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It provides a lot of useful advice and encouragement on female leadership. There's information shared here on the different types of leadership style and how to adapt or be more aware of others. It's important to stay true to yourself but self awareness/ individuality, empathy for others, and how to manage your feelings in certain situations are mentioned in this book. This is a good self help book to listen to on the road when you're driving to work, when you're having a rough day, or even pump yourself up prior to an interview or having conversations with your boss or subordinates. Good listen.

Inspiring
The narrator's tone is one of empowerment and ledearship toward the listener in most of the chapters. The author uses great examples of the challenges faced by woman leaders in history with whom we still identify in one way or another. She identifies the stereotype used against women and provides strategies to deal with such situations. Is a great book to improve leadership skills from the perspective of a woman who is climbing professionally in her workplace to the way she projects herself on a daily basis.

Amazing!
One of the things I appreciated most about this book was its focus on the diverse range of leadership styles that exist. The author does an excellent job of breaking down 14 different styles and explaining how they can be used to create an effective and inclusive workplace. I particularly enjoyed learning about the transformational leadership style, which emphasizes empathy, inspiration, and a shared vision. Throughout the book, the author also provides numerous practical tips and techniques for creating a positive work environment. From fostering open communication to promoting a culture of trust and respect, I found these suggestions to be incredibly valuable.

Don't fear what you don't know
There were some great topics touched on, and being a Black woman in leadership is a unique journey all its own. This gave me a lot to reflect on—what type of leader am I, and how can I continue to improve and grow for the better?

A real confidence booster!
This book is powerful! My favorite part was the empowering quotes from powerful female leaders—each one left me feeling more inspired. I've always struggled with confidence, especially in leadership roles, and this book really helped heal that part of me. The tools and insights it provides make leadership feel more attainable, and it gave me the confidence to take on new challenges. If you're looking to grow as a female leader, this is a must-read! Even if you don't aspire to be in a leadership role- every woman would benefit greatly from reading it.

Helping Women Break Barriers
If you’re a woman looking to step up as a leader in the workplace, this audiobook is a must-listen.
This audiobook really gets into the challenges women face—not just the external stuff like gender bias, but the internal struggles too, like self-doubt and imposter syndrome.
What I love most is how it helps women figure out what type of leader they naturally are. With so many leadership styles explained, you’ll find one that fits who you truly are, instead of feeling like you have to change to succeed. There’s also a strong focus on how important diversity is, not just for women, but for creating better workplaces overall.
This book is highly recommended for any woman looking to push past their limitations and embrace leadership. It will help you grow your confidence and become the leader you’re meant to be.

Every Leader should read this
I've been in Leadership for 20 years at this point and I believe every communication style could use a refresh and a boost. This book was a nice fresh take. The 9 keys are super practical and can be applied in your professional and personal life alike. It has helped me to be more succinct and has helped me to shape my thoughts to get my point across with confidence and clarity. Less awkward pauses....more meaningful exchanges! This book can definitely help you sharpen your communication skills and thankfully leaves out all of the fluff!
