Publisher's summary

A missing heiress, a mysterious trip, and a brutal murder come together in this gripping thriller, the first in HN Wake’s new series featuring FBI Special Agent Domini Walker.

Returning from an involuntary leave of absence, the gutsy, tenacious FBI Special Agent Domini Walker catches a no-brainer missing-persons case. The young heiress Hettie Van Buren has slipped away on a sexy weekend with a delinquent boyfriend.

But things are not as they seem. Not by a long shot.

The gruesome discovery of the boyfriend's corpse catapults Dom into action. Has Micah Zapata's Honduran past finally caught up with him? Why did Micah and Hettie conceal their trip? What secrets are the wealthy Van Buren family hiding?

While awaiting the findings of a perilous internal affairs investigation and battling her own personal demons from a tragic past, Dom races to assemble the pieces of a treacherous puzzle. With the help of sassy staff operations specialist Lea Peck and peculiar museum researcher Mila Pascale, Dom tracks an elusive killer - from sumptuous Central Park penthouses to the haunting piers in the Bronx and the dusty plains of Honduras.

If you like Clarice Starling, Harry Bosch, Lisbeth Salander, Jack Reacher, and Tracy Crosswhite, you’ll love Dom Walker. If you enjoy pause-resisting thrillers loaded with satisfyingly complex twists, sabotage, and intrigue, then the Dom Walker series is for you.

Good story, weaker writing and terrible performance

This could have been a really good story, but the writing is weak, almost like it was written for children. And, the performance by the narrator exacerbated the weak dialogue. It took a lot to stick with it to the end. Not sure I’ll give future books a try.

Good story, terrible narration

I have learned that no matter how good a story is, the narrator can absolutely ruin it. I ended up just reading it on Kindle. Her voices make it hard to listen to.

Dom Walker is no Lizabeth Salander

I was excited to find a new character that was supposedly in the same league with Harry Bosch, Lizabeth Salander and Jack Reacher. Sorry, not even close. The concept of Dom Walker's first book was good but the writing was very unsophisticated, something I would expect from a sophomore or junior in high school. The narration left even more to be desired. I cringed every time she spoke for one of the characters from one of Latin American countries. Not only was it with a marginal accent, she spoke so slowly (not like those Latin Americans I know) for those characters I could fall asleep waiting for the next word (only slightly hyperbolic). And when she spoke for the German character, it still sounded like a German speaking with a Spanish accent; sad.

This is the first of a series but I will not be counted among those looking forward to it.

Story decent -narration - oh my

I read/listen to hundreds of this genre a year. Being said the story is ok but lacked some vibrancy, wasn't predictable but did not leave me wanting more, if that makes sense? The narration was one of the oddest I have listened too and again I listen to hundreds- it unfortunately negatively impacted the pace and character development (interest) ... Sorry but I might, for the first time, skip the rest of this series.

story attempted too much between family issues and greed and eco terrorism . I liked the sassy Black techie who quoted Scripture!

Worst narrator ever

The book wasn’t good, but the reader was beyond terrible. Sing-song voice, which made the book seem trite. I only finished it because I was traveling and needed an audiobook. I won’t be reading the rest of the series.
