Publisher's summary

Get all five books in the Star Scavenger Series for one low price. A massive 29 hours of thrilling space opera adventure with the mystery and action of Indiana Jones.

From book one:

Hudson Powell had always been a drifter, but after his father died, he vowed to turn his life around. He quit freelancing as a starship pilot and joined the Relic Guardian Force as a 38-year-old rookie.

That was a big mistake.

The RGF police the alien wrecks that have been found on every portal world discovered in the last century. They make sure the relic hunters pay taxes on the priceless alien tech they scavenge from the hulks. The snag is that the RGF is corrupt. And Hudson’s training officer Logan Griff is the worst scumbag of the lot.

Pushed over the edge, Hudson stumbles upon the exhilarating world of the relic hunters and meets the equally intoxicating and deadly mercenary Tory Bellona.

Cast out from the RGF, Hudson Powell chooses a new path. But the discovery of a unique alien crystal will set events in motion that cannot be undone. People stopped asking where the alien hulks had come from. People stopped asking who created the portals, and why.

Hudson will discover that some alien relics are best left buried. One decision can change the course of an entire civilization. One discovery can change your life.

If you love space sci-fi like Firefly and Stargate blended with the mystery and adventure of Indiana Jones, you’ll love the Star Scavenger series. Begin listening to this thrilling five-book saga today.

Critic reviews

"Readers looking for a wild west adventure that replaces horses with spaceships and frontier towns with dangerous, ghetto-like planets will find much to enjoy in Guardian Outcast." (Readers' Favorite, 5-Star Review)

DESPITE everything, it was enjoyable

The story itself is really fun and interesting, but the writing relies on a lot on the authors favorite words and/or phrases. I could play a drinking game around the number of times the word DESPITE comes up. It also has a lot of the same foils multiple times in each book, which just gets old. The characters all have their own life and spirit, and are really well-defined, but the narrator is problematic. He has a high nasaly voice, so when he tries to do a nasaly voice, or any kind of voice, it's just hardl to listen to. I think the story is top notch but there's so many issues with everything else that I just can't give it 4*
If you can buy it on sale, it's a really good series with a lot of fantastic world-building and characters, but it also lacks in other things that make it hard to fully enjoy.

My first space opera read.

Pretty good. Had a slow start but after the first book, I couldn't really stop. after this paved the way for me, I'm looking for the next alspace opera to read, hoping it will be as good as this one.

A fun time by all.

An absolutely fun romp. Great characters and the narrator made the story come alive. A great series for my library.

Annoying characters, but moderately enjoyable.

I bought the five book series for a single credit, so I can't complain too much. I just started the third book, so there's something that's keeping me here, but not sure what it is, aside from boredom. The main character annoys me. Bounty hunters, hitmen, 'Relic Hunters' are all coming after him again and again trying to kill him, and yet he refuses to use lethal force. All the characters are underdeveloped, and shallow.

This was good

I found myself routing for good guys and hoping Grif would die horribly and painfully.

Pretty Good

I didn't buy 5 books for 1 credit expecting Tolkien, Asimov or Jordan. It was a great story for those wanting to just be entertained and swept away in a story. Two things bother me in this series. The author continues in all his books to use the word disorientated. Is it allowed??? Is it a real word?? Yes, unfortunately. To switch between that and disoriented is awful and to use a word like that repeatedly...... ouch. Then, the narrator, please try not to TRY so hard. The author described a character's voice as monotone and robotic, and from that point on you changed their voice to the extreme. And when someone is whiny you don't have to exaggerate SO much.

Other than those nitpicky things. I enjoyed it.

Awesome Series

I enjoyed this series of books. I found that each book of the series was exciting, filled with action, and entertaining. I definitely recommend this series. Doug Tisdale Jr did a great job as the narrator. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Plot armor of the gods!

Ok, I'd first like to start off by saying I actually enjoyed this series. the characters were likeable and relatable, the concept was interesting and visuals were painted easily by the descriptions.

Having said that:

So I was beginning to lose count of how many times our heroes were held up at gun point only to be saved at the last minute by some kind of sudden disruption, villain mishap or by the love interest of whom I can't believe didn't get curbed by her handler the first or even second time she protected the protagonist.

by the third or forth time this had happened I was rolling my eyes at how often our heroes were not saved by set skills of their own, but instead by plot armor intended for Jesus and sheer dumb luck. I mean honestly, how many times must his villains monolog over how dumb our hero is rather than just shoot him and have done with it?

and at what point does a hero have to say to himself "They won't stop coming. It's gotta be them or me." It reached a point were it had become painfully obvious that they were left alive soley for plot convenience.

While the villains weren't themselves bad, this back and fourth, Road runner/Wiley Coyote nonsense had become violently tedious.

That was the weakest point of the book for me, at least. The second weakest thing were some of the character readings of an otherwise decent narrator. a female character sounded male and he always read one of the villains in a very monotone fashion, even when it was described otherwise.

the Sci-fi was good and well fleshed out, but I couldn't help compare it to other, better written space sagas like The Expanse series, or felt like it had drawn a little too much inspiration from other series.

Still, I can say that the looming threat of a enormous planet killing ship powered by a vengeful A.I. was as tension building as it was original.

flawed, but saved by the clear love that was put into writing the protagonists, this is a fun series for sci fi lovers and a great bargain for a complete series.

characters voices. (cartoon ish)
