Somewhat of a let down...

What would have made Sun River Brides: Mail Order Bride Box Set, Books 1-9 better?

The books started out nice, and had great potential, but just didn't go far enough. The author could have done so much more with the story lines.

Has Sun River Brides: Mail Order Bride Box Set, Books 1-9 turned you off from other books in this genre?

no. I liked the genre very much.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator was fine - interesting -and kept my interest.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sun River Brides: Mail Order Bride Box Set, Books 1-9?

I wouldn't cut scenes. I would expend a LOT on numerous scenes!!

Any additional comments?

These books were a bit of a let down. I was really looking forward to having the author just going further with each story...get some excitement into the books. Pretty bland.

9 Sweet Stories - 1 Classic Collection

1.Carlton: A great kick off to a new series. I absolutely love this book. I hope that the rest of the collection is as good.

2. Mackenzie Annie dreams of a life on her own since her good friend Myra answered a mail-order advertisement and went west to Montana. Annie would never do anything that daring, but after seeing a unique ad and feelings unappreciated by her "new money" employer, she accepts Mackenzie's one-way ticket to Sun River.

This book touches on a woman forced to do something she doesn't want to. It may make some listeners uncomfortable.

3. Ethan – This is the longest of the installments. Maggie has seen the success of the mail-order bride advertisements for the young men in the pages of the newspaper. Why not see if she can have that success?

Through their correspondence each comes to realize that the other reminds them of a partner they had in their youth. Could it be true? If it is, will they be able to get past the old hurts and slights?

4. Tom: Before her father can marry her off to an old man, Katherine sends a Hail Mary to a mail order bride ad. Tom receives the reply for his advertisement and senses her distress. Will the be able to solve one another's problems?

5. Matthew – Emily is injured in her family's dangerous circus act. With her overbearing parents. She finds solace in her brief pen-pal style correspondence with Tom. Will it develop into or will the injury proved to be more for Tom and his young son to be able to accept.

6. Daniel: Alice hopes to follow in her sister, Maggie's footsteps as she was successful in finding a groom through a mail order bride advertisement. Daniel has everything a man could want… Except those areas needing a feminine touch – cooking, babies, etc. will this unlikely duo hit it off or will there differences be too much to establish a relationship?

7. William: Madeleine is scandalized through no fault of her own. However, the vultures don't care. Dr. William Havering is an ambitious physician who needs help. Will she escapes society and how in the world can she adjust to life in Montana? Those huge questions loom when Dr. Will's answers Maddie's advertisement?

8.Orphan Fredrica has suffered at the hand of her aunt. Fredrica decides to take fate into her own hands and places an ad on her own… Who could have known the huge impact that this tiny ad will have on her life, Aaron and two others in an unexpected way?

9. Gideon: Alberta is the daughter of a driven politician. She is the last of her friends to marry and have children. Gideon MacAlpine is as driven as Alberta's father, aspiring to become the governor of Montana. He doesn't want a wife, but one is required for such a lofty goal. How in the world will these two find a happily ever after?

These are wonderful, sweet, innocent romances [with the exception of one or two which hint that more heavy material.] I listen to them back to back and I would not recommend that as it would offer more surprise and enjoyment if you listen to them one at a time – between other books or projects. That will keep them fresh, in my opinion.

Alan Taylor is an above average performer. I really enjoyed his narration, especially the "voices" of male characters.

Too cookie cutter!

Too cookie cutter.! More novella-no romancing. Boring and lacking the little details that would fill out the characters.

Disappointing author, great narration

There are a few good stories that are believable, there is no filler which is nice but there is not much body to the stories. They have a great base and are a lovely listen but really they write two letter, meet and fall in love at first sight. There is a little danger, some great characters and a good base but not believable. I really liked the the donkey and that was a good story along with the friends who knew each other before as well as the governor, these are believable and very good. However the rest just don't cut it there is no way that two people can meet after two letters and fall head over heels at first sight. Maybe one but all of them I think not. There is no build up, not much after that at all. They were enjoyable but not ones I would want to listen to again. Really I had no trouble putting them down and stopping at any time.

The narrator did a good job there were a few places where I didn't think he gave true emotion but beside that he did a great job. There were no repeating of words, his normal voice as well as his character voices were very pleasant. Most of the time I knew who was talking, there is no repeating of words, and no background noise. I thought he did a great job delivering and would like to listen to more of his work.

Great short reads

This audible box set ended way too soon. I enjoyed each and every one of these 9 short clean romance stories. They were quick and to the point, an easy listen during a days worth of driving our housework. A few surprises here and there. Would recommend adding this to your collection.

wonderful

This was a wonderful collection. Each story was so heartwarming and enjoyable the characters were amazing and easy to like. The narrator done an amazing job with this collection I usually prefer male and female narrators to cover the different gender of the characters but in this collection he really brought life to both the male and female characters I would recommend this collection as well as following the work of this narrator.

Sweet historical romances

I thought the narrator did an excellent job! His voice was perfect for the many different characters!

The stories were each so unique despite the fact that all the grooms were from Sun River and all the brides were from Boston.

Some of the ladies were friends previously and some of the men were brothers and cousins, but each story was truly unique. A circus performer, a politician, a recovered drunk, a baker, a maid, etc! My biggest concern was that each story seemed to repeat the love at first sight theme. I wish at least a few would have had deeper feelings developed over a longer period!
I will definitely be reading and listening to more books by Karla!
