Publisher's summary

Journalist Rick Bowers has contributed to Time, The Washington Post, and USA Today, and his fascinating Spies of Mississippi—about the spy network that tried to take down the Civil Rights Movement—earned a starred review from Booklist. Here, Bowers examines how, in the late 1940s, The Adventures of Superman radio show struck a powerful blow against the Ku Klux Klan when Superman aired episodes pitting the hero against the Klan in an effort to teach young listeners to stand up to bigotry.

Incredible history of the beginning of KKK.

Loved the details but not to detailed so stayed interested the whole time. Narrator search brought me to this book and thoroughly enjoyed the history lesson with one of my favorite narrators. TY.

Worthwhile History, marred by minor errors

This book is particularly worthwhile in contemplation of the anti-democratic trends of present days. It is, however, marred by minor errors. (for instance, superman did not inspire creation of the shadow, who existed several years before Superman himself dId. Superman is also not known as the ”Caped Crusader.”

a really good story

Very fascinating detailed story that held my attention.
Definitely worth the time listening to.
It reminds us of a lot of ideas and principles I think we have forgotten

The willingness to visit the truth

I actually liked the compactness of the book, and the refusal to run with the legends created by some of the participants, instead choosing the truth...which itself was awesome, given what the anti-hate crew did. I would have liked a bit more follow-up, given that the Klan didn't go away after they were exposed and ridiculed, and the methods used in rebuilding the Klan have been used repeatedly by hate groups since.
