Lan spends her nights as a songgirl in Haak’gong, a city transformed by the Elantian colonizers. Story
Welcome to Tiankawi - shining pearl of human civilization and a safe haven for those fleeing civil unrest. Or at least, that's how it first appears. But in the semi-flooded city, humans are, quite literally, on top: peering down from shining towers and aerial walkways on the fathomfolk - sirens, seawitches, kelpies and kappas - who live in the polluted waters below. For half-siren Mira, promotion to captain of the border guard means an opportunity to help her downtrodden people. When extremists sabotage the annual boat race, violence erupts, as does the clampdown on fathomfolk rights.

As she’s dying, Mingshin makes a desperate plea to the gods to turn back time and give her a chance to make things right.

Filling in the blanks
Thank you Sue Lynn Tan for the amazing duology! The celestial kingdom was a great relief to the ending of an amazing fantasy of immortal and mortal life. I can not wait for what the future holds for additional books by her!

What’s up with the guy who doesn’t want to be here?
I was enchanted by the first 2 books. This is a good side story, and I appreciate the author sharing these subsequent events. Somehow the female narrator is an engaging performance, while the male narration is taking away from the story ?
I am hesitant to leave this review without more information about that narrator, but it’s as though he is reading at me without comprehension of the character. It is not a performance it is a high school senior forced to read to a child or elderly relative. I am often skeptical of reviews that are critical of the narration. I have many times purchased the book in-spite of the review, I have over 1,000 books in my library, I am an avid audible listener. So especially if it’s a book in a series I’m pretty much finishing that series. Again I am a huge supporter of audio books,
In Celestial Kingdom- I would just start enjoying the story & then a guy who would rather be doing anything else than reading this story would interfere. Don’t worry buddy we wish you were surfing instead of reading monotone, without inflection-to your 90 year old aunt in a smelly old folks home for 13 hours as well.
I hope this isn’t the end and we can finish with not this.

Why?
I wish Natalie Nudus had read the entire book as she did the first two books. I understand why they made the change but she was as much a part of the series for me as Liwei, Wenzhi, and Xingyin!

So happy to be back!
Thank you @Suelynntan, @Harpervoyagerus and @b2weird for this beautiful opportunity. #TheCelestialKingdom is one of my favorite duologies and like the author I find myself thinking back the characters and wondering how they are and with the publication of #TalesoftheCelestialKingdom I get some closure with this short story novella collection. And just as before with such lush writing I find myself instantly pulled back amongst the clouds .
I really like the voice actors from the series were able to come back and read their parts. They always do a great job and I with the addition of illustrations done by Kelly Chong made it all the more enjoyable.
Definitely would recommend this series for anyone who loves those glamorous K dramas or Chinese dramas with the beautiful and mystical settings that have all the elements of a great story.

Natalie Naudus 😭😍🥰
Natalie Naudus never ever fails to enchant me. She is the perfect narrator! The man on the other hand, listening to him was like listening to a sermon and I don’t even go to church. That’s why the performance lost a star. But it was neat to listen to the male characters experiences.
