The Dragon Rider returns!

The last winged horses are on the brink of extinction. At a sanctuary for threatened creatures, the home of a young dragon rider and his silver dragon, three foals lie curled up in their eggs. The foals are in great danger, and the only cure seems to be the sun-feather of a griffin. But griffins, creatures with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion, are a dragon's fiercest enemy, and they live far across the world in the sweltering jungle. A dangerous and exciting adventure begins....

Definitely worth it

It's not Brendan Fraser narrating which catches you off guard a bit but it was a story well done.
I read the first book nearly a decade ago and always wondered what happened next. The story-telling carries beautifully in this one and I can't wait for the third.

Dragons are what dreams are made of

Firedrake and Ben are soul mates-- dragon and dragon rider. Now to the next dangerous adventure. 3 beautiful pegus eggs and the father have been brought to a very special hideaway. The only known way for the eggs to hatch was for their mother to lick them. But alias, the mother had been attacked and died, now there is a forlorn stallion that doesn't see any way for his children to hatch. In comes the Greenbeard family. The dad has the young dragon rider, Ben, tell his dragon, Firedrake, that they are going in search of a special feather but not to tell him it is a Griffin feather. For two reasons it is important to keep Firedrake from knowing the truth; one is that Firedrake is expecting babies any time now and he is needed to care for them. The other reason is much more sinister-- Griffins are enemies of dragons.
The two part ways, one believing all is well and the other aware of the potential danger as well as the lye. Firedrake gave Ben one of his scales, in case the boy wants a contact time with him. How little did he know He would be desperately needed to save his dragon rider's life. A group of monkeys attack Ben and his group and the scale is dropped. Dropped with fear and anger mixed. The dragon determines he must go to Ben's aid. His wife insists he take another dragon with him. Tattoo is very excited to be leaving his valley, going on an adventure! Oh boy what an adventure he is getting ready to have.
The group gets saved but many griffins perish and evil monkeys die. The extra special golden feather that is needed to insure the pegasus foals hatch seems to be lost when Tattoo breaths dragon fire on the most evil of griffins turning him to stone.
Not all is lost because one of the talented monkeys shows the dragons that one griffin has golden feathers that she had painted to keep the evil griffin from seeing them. Now he is forced to give up one and the group heads home. Tattoo heads off faster than all the others carrying the precious life saving fluid and his very own dragon rider. He is one very happy dragon.
The fluid is painted onto the eggs..... now we wait.

I was unsure after reading reviews...

After listening to Brendan Fraser read Dragon Rider, I was really sad to see different readers for this one and reading some reviews, I was really hesitant to listen at all. I am glad I did!! The story is just as good as the first. There were many new characters and lots of excitement.
Some names and accents were different, but as the author was one of the readers in this one I think it's safe to say this version is actually more accurate in those respects. There are sound effects and some extreme voices, but I felt like they added to the story and enhanced the performance. It was an enjoyable read!

Could have done without the music

The music didn’t add anything for me but detracted, no offense, especially the theme song at the end. But loved the story.

Good story

I enjoyed the story, though it was more about feelings than the first book. I think Brendan Fraser, who read the first book, was a better narrator.

Good story, bad reader

This book was good, not as good as The Dragon Rider, but a great story. The reader is NOT very good though. Most of her books are read by Brendan Fraser and this reader is nowhere near as good. the voices made no sense and there were several that were just annoying.
