Story
I’m Val Thorvald, and I’m an assassin. When magical bad guys hurt people, I take care of them. Permanently. This doesn’t make me popular with the rest of the magical community — as you can tell from the numerous break-ins and assassination attempts I’ve endured over the years. But thanks to my half-elven blood, a powerful sword named Chopper, and a telepathic tiger with an attitude, I’ve always been able to handle my problems with aplomb. Maybe some cursing and swearing, too, but definitely aplomb.

Humans have been pushed to the brink of extinction by an ever-evolving demonic threat. Portals are opening faster than ever, Towers are bursting into the skies, and Dungeons are being mined below the last safe havens of society. The demons are winning. Quest Academy stands defiantly against them as a place to train the next generation of Heroes. The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

When Alice Verianna went to sleep, she was just another teen from the Denver suburbs. She definitely didn't expect to be transported to a magical alternate dimension, inhabited by monsters and presided over by a mysterious System. Here, people resemble RPG characters and everyone has access to their own status screens. Grappling with the mechanics of the elusive System isn't the only challenge Alice faces. It seems an underground organization known as the Society of Starry Eyes has taken a particular interest in other dimensions.

Story
You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

The ending gets very interesting
The development of the characters and story was quite long and a bit hard to follow. I lost the thread between the main characters and few times. The narration is sometimes like a news cast. The ending got very interesting so I may get the next book in the series to hear more about the dragons and a couple main characters

This is a CrackerJack of a story...
This is a CrackerJack of a story! I stumbled across this in an ad on Facebook and damn I'm glad 😊 I did!
As the story unfolds you realize that it's actually following 4 different storylines, And that all of 'em take place in the God City.
The first introduced is Aila and we learn right away that not only can she change her appearance with glamor but that she also a top tier assassin... the second is Corthie Holdfast a mortal and inducted into the Blade's to fight against the Greenhides an insectoid race and surprisingly Corthie has god-like Battle-vision and he can also see through glamor, next we learn about Maddie Jackdaw a somewhat argumentative young woman that is seriously just trying to hang on and join the Blade's but her chances keep slipping by. The forth and final POV is Daniel Aurelian a young officer joining the militia. All the stories are fascinating in their own right and seemingly independent of each other until they're not!!
Ohhhh and did I mention that there are Dragons, only 2 but jeez how many do you need?!?
I happened to really like Shaun Grindell narration so go ahead and grab this awesome book or better yet the boxed set...

Political intrigue with Tangential Dragon’s
Set in a single city.
Characters are interesting.
…and yet I’m not entirely sure I wish to spend another credit to find out what happens after the cliffhanger -although I probably will

Good story
Good story. It started out a little slow but then really got going. Best of all, it’s got dragons!

WOW just wow
The way the stories told you can feel like you're in the city. you feel the emotions of the characters and you can understand their feelings. I feel like this was a very well written first book. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Dragons. Demigods, fighters. Oh My!
I really enjoyed this book. Have started & am half day thru the Second. The “reader is decent with. I had to slow down my pace with him. Once I got in his groove I was able to pick up the pace. The. Ppl itself. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s action packed. HS a good premise to it! The. Character development take a bit to get into , it however, it’s is a very great read/listen! I recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy books. The characters are all very intriguing, with several story arcs that fall together like dominos.

Unreasonably stupid characters.
The premise, world building, and general delivery of the story are quite good. The narrator is also very good.
The only problem I have with the story is that every character we get as a PoV is makes obviously objectively bad decisions in pretty much every scene they are in. The story is mostly propelled by the blundering of the main characters which I find infuriating

Exciting
I liked how there were different stories going on all at the same time. Each character added to the story as a whole. Great read!
