Publisher's summary
Happily married for over a year and more in love than ever, Darcy and Elizabeth can’t imagine anything interrupting their bliss-filled days. Then an intense snowstorm strands a group of travelers at Pemberley, and terrifying accidents and mysterious deaths begin to plague the manor. Everyone seems convinced that it is the work of a phantom - a Shadow Man who is haunting the Darcy family’s grand estate.
Darcy and Elizabeth believe the truth is much more menacing and that someone is trying to murder them. But Pemberley is filled with family guests as well as the unexpected travelers - any one of whom could be the culprit - so unraveling the mystery of the murderer’s identity forces the newlyweds to trust each other’s strengths and work together.
Written in the style of the era and including Austen’s romantic playfulness and sardonic humor, this suspense-packed sequel to Pride and Prejudice recasts Darcy and Elizabeth as a husband-and-wife detective team who must solve the mystery at Pemberley and catch the murderer before it’s too late.

Story
I much prefer the sharpest criticism of a single intelligent man to the thoughtless approval of the masses. ELIZABETH BENNET is determined that she will put a stop to her mother’s plans to marry off the eldest Bennet daughter to Mr. Collins, the Longbourn heir, but a man that Mr. Bennet considers an annoying dimwit. Hence, Elizabeth disguises herself as Jane and repeats her vows to the supercilious rector as if she is her sister, thereby voiding the nuptials and saving Jane from a life of drudgery. Story
This novel of 67,000 words is a sweet and clean variation of Pride and Prejudice written from a Christian perspective. The characters meet as children and grow in understanding of themselves and each other over the period of Elizabeth at age five until her marriage. There are no super-villains to wreak havoc on our heroes or heroines in this low-angst retelling. Except: Summer 1796 - On a mild summer day in Hertfordshire, Lady Anne Darcy sat in the shade of the terrace overlooking the generous expanse of manicured lawn behind their leased estate. Netherfield Park was an agreeable location ...

She thought him dead. Now only he can save their daughter. When Lady Catherine de Bourgh told Elizabeth Bennet: “And this is your real opinion! This is your final resolve! Very well. I shall now know how to act. Do not imagine, Miss Bennet, that your ambition will ever be gratified. I came to try you. I hoped to find you reasonable; but, depend upon it, I will carry my point,” no one knew how vindictive and manipulative her ladyship might prove, but Darcy and Elizabeth were about to discover the bitter truth for themselves. Unless one knows the value of loyalty, he cannot appreciate the cost of betrayal. What if Darcy and Elizabeth met weeks before the Meryton assembly? What if there is no barely “tolerable” remark to have Elizabeth rejecting Mr. Darcy’s affections, but rather a dip in a cold creek that sets her against him? What if Mr. Bennet is a renown Shakespearean scholar who encourages Darcy to act the role of Petruchio from Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” to bring Elizabeth’s Katherina persona to the line? ELIZABETH BENNET’s pride has her learning a difficult lesson: Loyalty is ...

Two hearts. One kiss. Following his wife’s death in childbirth, Fitzwilliam Darcy hopes to ease his way back into society by hosting a house party during Christmastide. He is thrilled when his cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam sends a message saying not only will the colonel attend, but he is bringing a young woman with him of whom he hopes both Darcy and the colonel’s mother, Lady Matlock, will approve. Unfortunately, for Darcy, upon first sight, he falls for the woman: He suspects beneath Miss Elizabeth Bennet’s conservative veneer lies a soul which will match his in every way; yet, she is...

Good
The narration by Rebecca Courtney was really good and I would have rated her performance higher if not for a few notable exceptions. She gave Anne a horrible lisp. In the story, Georgiana has a cold and it sounds like it which is fine. However, she still sounds like she has a cold ten plus days into it. That voice got old. I felt like the narrator wasn’t familiar with Wickham’s character, who is supposed to be so charming and irresistible to women. She also gave him a lisp. It just didn’t work for me.
The story is good and held my interest throughout.

Great story! Annoying narrator.
The story was fantastic in itself but the narrator was very distracting. Charachter impersonations were a real struggle for her and it showed. I particularly disliked that she added a pronounced lisp to more than one of them.

Not my favorite...
The tale of Wickham is too far fetched... Ann’s lisp is dreadful and Georgiana sounds like she has a cold or moonlights as a lounge singer. Not my favorite.

A little too long.
The plot was decent, but I felt the story went about five chapters too long. The mystery of the intruder was suprising, if not a little strange.

Gripping murder mystery
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Highly recommended to murder mystery lovers.
I loved this murder mystery story. It was full of angst and multiple murders occurred. There were many people involved, each one with a different agenda and a backstory. I enjoyed discovering multiple layers of deceit and disguise, though I understand that it might have been a bit confusing for some readers. But it is what I expected from this kind of story.
My favorite part of the book was the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth: strong, faithful, passionate and very sweet. I enjoyed their interactions very much. The original characters were very well written and engaging.
Have you listened to any of Rebecca Courtney’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't but I loved her performance. She made different characters easily recognizable by switching voices and accents.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Couldn’t stand Anne and Georgianna’s voices
Very good story and the narrator is generally good in creating voices and accents. However Georgianna sounds like she has a perpetual cold and Anne lisps! While the accents are good, some of the choices for several characters were annoying...
