Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

When Earth finally came together and fielded its first spaceborne military, Jacob didn’t hesitate to volunteer. Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Publisher's summary
They’ve spent years exploring this world, but they were living on borrowed time. Only they didn’t know it.
Six months ago, Connor learned what the alien race that populated New Earth feared - a mysterious enemy who nearly brought about the collapse of an entire civilization. To help the colony prepare for this new threat, Connor rejoins the Colonial Defense Force.
Using alien technology, Connor opens a gateway to another universe hoping to learn more about the threat. Instead, he receives a colonial distress beacon. Six months ago, they’d left people behind on a mission, all presumed dead. The beacon might be them, or it might be a trap, but Connor will not ignore the call for help.
Fearing the beginning of another war, the colonial government would rather do nothing than risk bringing attention to the colony, but it’s already too late. The colony stands upon a crossroads. Its future is uncertain. They’ll have to adapt if they’re to survive.
Vigilance is the seventh book in the bestselling First Colony series.

Story
The plot by the Galactic Union’s Mercenary Guild against the Four Horsemen has culminated in an invasion of Earth. Faced with an overwhelming force, the human mercs had no choice. They’ve fled, leaving Sansar Enkh to go to the Mercenary Guild headquarters on Capital Planet to stand trial for humanity. On the run, Jim Cartwright and Nigel Shirazi have travelled to the Winged Hussars’ secret base of New Warsaw, in an effort to convince Alexis Cromwell to join the fight, while the other mercenaries who escaped the fall of Earth have gone to the perceived safe haven of Karma.

She wants to know about the past--to experience it firsthand. Once she's dived the ship, she'll either leave it for others to find or file a claim so that she can bring tourists to dive it as well. It's a good life for a tough loner, with more interest in artifacts than people.

It's been eighty years since Thorn split his people into six societies spread across the galaxy. He's known all that time a timeline shift was coming, and the role he needed to play when it did. The mages of his world are ready, including his great-great nephew, Bud. For Bud, living in the shadow of his legend relative hasn't really been an issue, and his role in the timeline shift is supposed to be minor. Do you like a retreat into an alternative, well constructed, universe? Well I do and this is one of my favorites.
Leave Earth and live in the New Earth universe for a while. Meet believable characters and various local alien species as well as some from the multiverse.
One can only hope that the narrator never changes.
The journey, if you enjoy this type of other world space opera, is as rewarding as any I’ve read. Personally, I cannot wait for more.
And you? Get all the books and Welcome to New Earth.

Ken, I heard you... You have a winner
I want to point out that I have done more than read/heard one of your books.. in this 9 book series I have them all.
it is a grounded in reasonable pretense series that does not require me to "suspend reality" .. well not extreme anyway.. in order to follow and enjoy it. I am on my way to the next book in the series..
i had two, maybe three, series I enjoyed enough to listen to them over and over.. I think I have one more now. Time for the gym and starting my next book.. You might consider a little marketing like some of the other authors.. keep up the good work and keep Scott as your narrator.. he is in part the reason I have continued to follow the series.
For those reading this.. the First Colony series is fun, interesting, attention grabbing with a touch of humor and professionalism in its presentation.. all in all a good read.
no, Indo not know the author personally.. lol

I can’t wait for the next one
This series rocks, I think it is the fastest one I have caught up with since I started listening to audio books, story and performance continue to rock, keep up the great work, that was a nice installment at the end about how you got into writing full time.

An enjoyable series.
I especially enjoyed the author’scomments by the author in the last section of the book.
It’s good to see and hear about other peoples journeys.
