Publisher's summary

An enemy with otherworldly powers. A war fueled by insatiable bloodlust. No one will be spared.

Following their first victory against a rogue unit of Repub Marines, Magnus finds his newly trained gladias pinned down by a squadron of Talons. But when he discovers that their prisoners may hold critical answers to bringing down the enemy, Magnus must stop at nothing to get his team to safety and interrogate the enemy combatants.

Once aboard their new Novian starship, however, Magnus isn’t prepared for the intel he uncovers. The enemy’s power is growing stronger by the day, and their claws have found their way into his own team members. Forced across the void horizon into his home universe, Magnus must search to find Awen’s mentor and famed Elder of the Luma, Willowood. But finding the old woman before the enemy unleashes the next stage of its plans could mean the end of Magnus’ fledgling resistance.

Includes a bonus story from the Ruins of the Galaxy series and a special note from the author.

The kid becomes the Enemy?

Really? Really? The kid Falls for the enemy tricks.? 10 times I saw this coming because of how the key info which in real life would have been said in passing, under breath, out loud, in debriefings would've made sense and changed the outcome. But to advance the story using Hollywood's stupid story writing of using confusion because someone didn't speak up PISSED me off. It made the story so much more weaker than a the previous books. I'm glad in a sense it came at the end of the book. You had a great story but you're falling victim to the same pitfalls Hollywood Movies are falling to. Using Cliches to write the story versus being clever and having the reader / Listener have an Ah-Ha moment.

Not all was bad. The Joke landed. The lak of sex keeped the story on course and Engaging. The feelings for the characters were on point. It's too bad you won't see this. the stories are probably already written.
Be blessed, Be safe.... Thanks for the Stories. I am a Semi truck driver. They help for the long roads.

Stories Continues to get better and better

Really solid story telling and the story is really starting to get a lot of pleasant nuances as the story gets more complex. Lots of solid twists/turns in this one, and a couple of gut wrenching spots (good thing).

Only minor quibble that’s distracting is the authors use of alien analogies. In the first novel it was lots of repeat weapon models and it seems we’ve moved onto things like “buckling like a rambilian patherface” (made that up but it’s kind of like that) … just say alien horse :)

But seriously this is become a favorite series of mine of recent and looking forward to the coming editions… and RC Bray - damn he just makes this story awesome. I swear i would probably give 5 stars to him reading the Betty Crocker cookbook and I’d likely come back for seconds! (See what I did there haha)

Hopper, Chaney, & Bray; No better Trio

Holy Splick, this is a fun ride. I know that people that want to jump into a series, will tend to look at reviews of books farther down the line to see if the series holds up. Well Mystics, it does.

Hopper and Chaney have created an interesting world here. I love the mixture and variety of characters that make up the core group. The action is fast-paced but easy to follow.

Also, Lord Bray is the grand champion of book narriation.

Easily the best so far

Non stop action. You know something is going to happen, as sure as two trains on the same track but you can't stop them and can't look away. You will be pausing to curse out loud.

So good, right up until the one part, that I skipped over.

I don’t know how to really write this without accidentally spoiling something, but there were some aspects toward the tail end of the story that, frankly, pissed me off.
I guess I could put it as; there’s a certain part of the story where an individual is corrupted and that has clearly been setup as a catalyst for a future book, but the events before, during, and after that event were sufficient to cause me to skip several chapters. I’ve never done that and I’m pretty bummed about it. Especially because the events surrounding this person had become my favorite part of the story, but it was taken in a disappointing direction.
