Probing into a trial that deliberated on Betty's promiscuity, her alcoholism, and her adulterous affair with a black man rather than any physical evidence against her, critically acclaimed journalist Jim Schutze reveals how sex, politics, and corruption could possibly have led to a scandalous miscarriage of justice that kept the real killer from facing full penalty for his cold-blooded deed. A fascinating true crime account, By Two and Two is a must-listen investigation into the harrowing details of a sensational murder case.

For years, Eddie Lee Sexton ruled his large family like Charles Manson. The depraved patriarch dominated his ragged brood of twelve children mentally, physically, and sexually, and enforced every cruelty imaginable, from vicious beatings to raping his daughters and fathering their children. Finally, in 1992, Sexton's eighteen-year-old daughter Machelle, seeking refuge in a women's shelter, revealed the shocking, sordid details of her father's abuse to authorities. As the law attempted to catch up to Eddie Lee Sexton, he moved his family to a mobile home in western Florida.

Twenty one years after the brutal murders of three eight year old Cub Scouts in West Memphis, Arkansas, there seem to still be more questions than there are answers. We have gone all the way back to the beginning and looked through years worth of evidence. What we have found may truly shock you. Sifting between truth and lies, rumors and reality, and taking quite an emotional roller coaster ride, we have put together a book that strives to present nothing but the cold hard facts of what truly took place on the night of May 5, 1993 in Robin Hood Hills to Steven Branch, Michael Moore and ...

By the time police arrived, Carol was dead, and the baby was soon lost as well. The attack incited a furor during a time of heightened racial tension in the community. Even more appalling, while the injuries were real, Stuart’s story was a hoax: He was the true killer.

Resumen del Editor
An "excellent true-crime study" of a female serial killer given the death penalty for poisoning at least three men between 1973 and 1989 (Publishers Weekly).
Widowed Blanche Taylor Moore was about to lose her second spouse to symptoms that mysteriously mirrored those that killed her first husband—as well as her previous boyfriend. When an investigation reveals arsenic poisoning, the hideous truth about the wife and mother comes to light. Did the abuse Blanche suffered as a child at the hands of her alcoholic father turn her into a murderer she became?
In this riveting true crime account, critically acclaimed journalist Jim Schutze explores the harrowing motivation and chilling details of the lives, loves, and victims of North Carolina's oldest living inmate on death row.

Historia
In weeks after the September 11 attacks, 18-year-old Mansoor Adayfi was kidnapped by Afghan militia and sold to US forces for bounty money. After months of interrogations, he was sent to the US military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, as one of its first prisoners. Like the nearly 800 other men imprisoned at Guantanamo, Adayfi didn’t know why he was imprisoned or for how long. He had never seen a skyscraper and couldn’t imagine what the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center looked like, much less how they were destroyed.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

The kidnapping of a child is every parent's worst nightmare. Statistically, the vast majority of kidnapped children are never returned to their parents. In the past few years, especially recently, there have been some well publicized cases of children being returned to their parents. Some of these abducted children are returned after many years of being held captive. Obviously, this is very unusual, since most children are never returned and many times not even any remains are found. Most parents who lose a child through kidnapping, never even get an answer to the question of, "Is my child ...

Dangerous and disregarding people don't simply drop out of the sky. Nor are they born bloodthirsty and cruel. When looking at the developmental years of adult criminals and juvenile delinquents or the selfish patterns of anyone that we must rub shoulders with, the question is asked "How does one get this way?" Typically we can see the answers within their genetic mental health history which may hint of possible concern and their first 5 years after birth which is their most impressionable social training ground.

Shunned by society, and sometimes in mortal danger, many coolie women were either runaways, widows, or outcasts. Many of them left husbands and families behind to migrate alone in epic sea voyages-traumatic "middle passages"—only to face a life of hard labor, dismal living conditions, and sexual exploitation. Coolie Woman is a meditation on survival, a gripping story of a double diaspora—from India to the West Indies in one century, Guyana to the United States in the next-that is at once a search for one's roots and an exploration of gender and power, peril and opportunity.

This story is bananas lol
This one was well written. Some books in this genre veer into murder porn territory, while others are so dry they feel like somebody just sat down and started listing facts like a textbook. But this one is that good blend of news article and narrative nonfiction that makes it easy to follow and hard to put down. The story is crazy and stuck with me enough that I'm certain I'll listen to it again down the road. Definitely worth the credit.
