Eating is a basic biological necessity and yet our relationship with food can be fraught with a host of complications. Thanks to the pressures of diet culture and a bombardment of contradictory messages about health and body image, many of us have lost the ability to listen to our own bodies when it comes to what, when, and how much to eat. And many of us pass this poor relationship with food on to our children without even realizing it.
How can we combat the negative habits and feelings that surround our food choices? And how can we give our kids a healthier alternative to the anxiety of restrictive diets and encourage them to listen to what their bodies need? Some good tips, some sanctimonious propaganda
There are some helpful reflections about ways parents inadvertently judge or force unhealthy eating habits onto their kids. That's not okay and that's what pushed me toward the book. Unfortunately, a lot more of the book is sanctimonious repetition of current pseudoscientific trends (try counting the number of times the author says "I'm a professional pediatric dietitian" in a sing-song voice to lend authority to whatever eating habits are currently trendy on TikTok). This book will age very badly when the tide shifts yet again.

Very informative
While I do not have children of my own yet, I found this book to be very informative. I have recently lost over 100lbs; and, in the process of doing so, my relationship with food has become quite toxic as I fully bought into diet culture rhetoric and practices. I have never had a great relationship with food. However, listening to this piece, affirmed for me that my poor relationship with food started well before adulthood.
Although this is aimed at parents who are trying to build an intuitive eating habit in their children, there is so much from this that I will be incorporating into my life as well!
