Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

That's what Shawn Stevenson learned when a degenerative bone disease crushed his dream of becoming a professional athlete. Like many of us, he gave up on his health and his body...until he decided there must be a better way.

Cured my long term insomnia
I have tried everything imaginable to cure my insomnia and was very skeptic that this book and it’s general premise of simply changing how I think about my problem could ‘cure’ me. I combined listening to it with the Sleep School App and I’m only a week into the 30 day course and I am absolutely gob smacked - after a couple of years of being unable to sleep without medication and other props I am sleeping totally normally. It feels like a miracle!

Good book
The overall message is a good one: behave like a normal sleeper and break out from your before-bed routines. For me not doing anything therefore became the goal. So I have a few mixed feelings about this. Some activities are relaxing and prepare your brain to relax, creating a reflex. Also, check with your neurologist if your insomnia is in any way related to your body/nervous system, rather the uncontrollable thoughts at night. For me, it turned out I do not have a proper positioning of the spine - which in turn affects my blood flow to the brain and my ability to fully relax before sleep.
