内容紹介
少年探偵団の仲良しコンビ、井上少年と野呂少年がある日の夕方奇妙な人物を見た。
ソフト帽をかぶってステッキを持った紳士なのだが、その顔は目や鼻が真っ黒に穴の開いた骸骨紳士だったのだ。
二人が骸骨紳士の後をつけると、サーカス小屋へ姿を消した。
サーカスを楽しんでいた千人もの観客の前に姿を現す骸骨紳士。
だがその目の前で煙のように姿を消したのだ。
警察やサーカス団員で探すが見つからず、諦めかけた時またもや姿を現した。
団員が助けを求めて人を呼ぶが、目を離した隙に再び消えてしまった。
不気味に思いながらサーカス公演を続ける団員達。
そして次に骸骨紳士が姿を現したのは、なんと空中ブランコの上だった。
驚いた団員がブランコから落ちてしまうが、見上げた時にはすでに誰もいなかった。
姿を現しては消える骸骨紳士の目的は何なのだろうか?
誰もその答えがわからない中、とうとう犠牲者が出てしまう。
サーカス団団長が骸骨紳士に襲われたのだ。
少年探偵団が探す中ゾウに乗った骸骨紳士が現れ、「サーカス団団長は自分の子供を殺すだろう」という予言めいた手紙を置いて消えていってしまった。
それから数日後、団長の子供の正一くんが骸骨紳士に誘拐されてしまう。
その話を聞いた明智探偵はあることに気付き、大慌てで事務所を飛び出していく。
その時、正一くんは団長の銃によって命の危機に!
明智探偵は正一くんを助けることが出来るのか?
団長は引き金を引いてしまうのか?
