薫 二七歳

何よりも危きものとかねて見し
小舟の中に自らを置く
匂宮は浮舟を忘れることができずに悶々としていた。新年に浮舟から中の君へ手紙が届いたことを匂宮は見つけ、浮舟は薫が宇治にかくまって大切にしている女性であることを突き止める。
ひそかに宇治を訪れた匂宮は、薫をよそおって浮舟に近づき、強引に思いを遂げる。匂宮だと気づいた浮舟は驚き、自らの過失におそれおののくが、穏やかな薫とは対照的な匂宮の情熱に心惹かれてゆくのだった。
思い悩む浮舟の真意を知らぬ薫は、浮舟を京へ迎える準備を進める。しかしある日、薫と匂宮の使者が宇治で鉢合わせになり、薫は匂宮が浮舟と通じていることを知る。匂宮も浮舟を引きとろうとするが、薫は厳戒態勢を取り、匂宮を近づかせない。どちらを選ぶこともできず、追い詰められた浮舟はついに死を覚悟するのであった。
