“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Audible Niceness for Video Nasties

Publisher's summary
Magic is often seen as wondrous and benevolent. But T.W. Grim, a celebrated author of eerie NoSleep tales, offers a different kind of sorcery: one that pulls at the very threads of reality, weaving tales of terror and wonder.
A man slips out of reality and becomes trapped in a ghastly parallel dimension. A radical scientist unleashes an experimental drug on the world to devastating consequences. An intergalactic intelligence makes a cold, logical decision to destroy humanity. An elderly man shares stories of horror around the campfire.
These stories and others blend the supernatural with spine-chilling horror. Are you ready to embrace the dark side of magic?
Critic reviews
“Really incredible…” (C.D. Kester, author of Chasing Demons)
“Horror stories worthy of incredible praise.” (Rafael Marmol, author of If Hell is What You Want)

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Uncommonly good (super)natural horror
Well paced, well read. Exquisitely written. Sometimes so well phrased that you find yourself reading it back just for the prose. But this isn’t some arty, stuck up, self-referential anthology.
It never gets boring or loses its edge. It’s not just another book full of stories you’ve already heard in another form. This is that rare book that balances entertainment, pulpy accessibility, phenomenal writing and contemplations of both man and the monster. Sometimes it’s the one in the mirror.
I’m hard to please. Everything’s too highbrow or lowbrow nowadays. But this proves it’s still possible to hit the sweet spot.
This is a lot like King that way. With limited exposition and a complete lack of guile. There are meta truths here, but you won’t find any irony. Each of these stories was written by someone who was ALL IN on their love for the reader, and determined to keep us entertained at all costs. BUY THIS
