Too cruel for my taste

The story is good but I couldn’t finish the book because of aspects and incidents of cruelty that I found to be unbearably disturbing. If I remember I will avoid this author in the future.

Thoroughly enjoyable story/fantastic narrator!

Hesitated after reading reviews complaining of rampant, gory, detailed accounts of animal abuse throughout, but these folks should stick to romance novels/comedies/cookbooks and actively avoid books with storylines centered around serial killers. Profilers have long used the "homicidal triad" to identify serial killers, one leg of this triad being animal abuse. So, while the author did describe some cruelty rather graphically, it was incorporated into the storyline and not gratuitous by any means. I found Jack Logan to be a main character who is believable, likeable and damned funny. The other characters were equally likeable and like other readers, i was delighted that the author didn't feel the need to have Jack romance any of the female detectives, especially Sinead, who I hope to see in the next book(s) as well. Overall great book and I cant wait to dive into this series!

Don't believe everyone's review

I absolutely loved this book. I am a animal lover and it was not as extreme as other reviewers wrote. I actually almost didn't pick this book. Due to what I was reading from other reviewers. I am so happy I toke a chance. this book was very well done and the performance was excellent. I look forward to reading more from this writer.

Good Tartan Noir, Heavy on the Noir

I enjoyed this one. I'm a big fan of the Tartan Noir genre. This was that, emphasis on the Noir part. a little on the heavy side. The Ian Rankin Rebus series is my favorite--I like the humor he injects.

This is a fun book and I'll follow up w/ the next in series--I guess that says a lot, right?

Surprised by other reviews

I purchased this title as a daily deal and I am certainly glad I did. I am always looking for a new series of detective mysteries, but I don't like anything too graphic in romance or violence. I started listening to this book and then read a few reviews (not many). A couple that I read said that the book had some scenes that were too violent for them. I waited on tenterhooks for the graphic violence, but it never came. It is a murder mystery, but it really is not gory. I like the main character very well and the plot moved along at a good clip. I enjoyed the narration, also. Sometimes I have difficulty with a Scottish accent, but I easily understood the narrator. I am planning on buying the next book in the series just as soon as I finish this review. Two thumbs up.

brilliant book, had me on the edge of my seat! narrator was clear and had fun with the characters. but.. what happened to the other boy?? the one that Connor didn't like? was it Harris?? Petri's grandson? man.. is there a part 2?

I thought it was very well done and I really liked the characters.

And the ending was A surprise!

New author for me.

I enjoyed the book and would have given a 5 out 5 for story but held back because I struggled with the graphic description of animal cruelty. A bit too graphic for me.

Great stoy-telling

Excellent narration of a compelling myster thriller. The climax left me with some unanswered questions - I wish there was more to connect certain dots . But I'm eager for the next installment!

Riveting

I've enjoyed everything this author has written, but this is such a departure from his other genres, I put off listening to it. MISTAKE! It was awesome! Not sure why I doubted! Great characters, relationships, plotline sucked me in right from the start and wouldn't let me go. Narration was top-notch as well. Will be looking for more about DCI Logan!
