Publisher's summary

From acclaimed author Charlie Donlea comes a twisting, impossible-to-pause novel of suspense in which a filmmaker helps clear a woman convicted of murder - only to find she may be a pawn in a sinister game.

The Girl of Sugar Beach is the most watched documentary in television history-a riveting, true-life mystery that unfolds over 12 weeks and centers on a fascinating question: Did Grace Sebold murder her boyfriend, Julian, while on a Spring Break vacation, or is she a victim of circumstance and poor police work? Grace has spent the last 10 years in a St. Lucian prison, and reaches out to filmmaker Sidney Ryan in a last, desperate attempt to prove her innocence.

As Sidney begins researching, she uncovers startling evidence, additional suspects, and timeline issues that were all overlooked during the original investigation. Before the series even finishes filming, public outcry leads officials to reopen the case. But as the show surges towards its final episodes, Sidney receives a letter saying that she got it badly, terribly wrong.

Sidney has just convinced the world that Grace is innocent. Now she wonders if she has helped to free a ruthless killer. Delving into Grace's past, she peels away layer after layer of deception. But as Sidney edges closer to the real heart of the story, she must decide if finding the truth is worth risking her newfound fame, her career...even her life.

mind blown!

I couldn't put it down. The ending was so unexpected and shocking! I have read and loved all the author's other books but this one is by far the best.

Loved the book

I loved the story line. It kept me thinking but the ending left me hanging. Hope the author did this with a sequel in mind. Otherwise I didn’t like the ending I don’t like to be left hanging.

Good, Engaging, then Pathetic

I really did like this book until...…. It was pretty engaging from start to ALMOST finish. There were times when it felt like there was so much detail, but I did appreciate the time and effort the author must have put in to write the novel. BUT with that said, the ending was so dissatisfying. I mean the whole book you have an overload of details and then boom the books is over. I had to stop listening around the 59th chapter to see if I may have accidently skipped a chapter or 5. It felt like I WAS PUSHED over the cliff and didn't see it coming. And that's pathetic. I feel like a wasted so much time to get nowhere. What happened to everyone, where did they go, how did it end? The build up was simply a waste of time. I am 100% sure there are better books out there. Pass this one, you'll feel cheated otherwise.

A little disappointing

I enjoyed the story a lot until about the last five chapters. I was really surprised at the twist and not in a good way at all. It was just a bit disappointing.

Good psychological tale

Really interesting story and kept me engaged until near the end. Was taken aback by what happened to the main character. Then there was the unsatisfying ending. Because of that I had to give the story only 3 stars.

He’s done it again

Charlie Donlea has written a fast-paced and intriguing legal thriller based on the kind of television series comparable to Making a Murderer, but so much better. I would have chosen a different ending, but it was a helluva ride.
