Neither knows why they were chosen, only that they share a tragic past: Evan’s father got away with killing Noelle’s mother, effectively ruining her family when the death was ruled an accident. When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbi’s son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughter’s reputation, it’s Philadelphia’s strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye. To Marilyn’s surprise, Ada’s not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermès scarf, and Cadillac convertible. She’s sharp, straight-talking, takes her job very seriously, and abides by her own rules…mostly.

Publisher's summary
An inheritance forces three estranged sisters to face past hurts and painful memories in a heartfelt novel about family and resilience by the author of Happy Is On Hiatus.
When the Butler sisters learn they’ve inherited their beloved grandma Betty’s beach house in South Carolina, they have mixed emotions. To put it mildly.
Successful Lana seems to have it all. Nobody needs to know that her marriage and finances are falling apart. For her there’s no other option but to sell the beach house. Overburdened Yvonne already has priorities—including being her mother’s sole caretaker. Her advice: put it on the market and move on. Then there’s sentimental Tami. She can’t let her sisters just unload their past without at least one last trip to the Sea Islands.
They don’t have a choice. If they’re to collect, they must reunite and renovate their grandma’s bequest.
During a life-changing month on the shore, the Butler sisters not only uncover family secrets but start to repair their broken bond through personal revelations and a newfound desire to keep their family legacy alive. It’s not going to be easy, but it’s a beautiful start.
Critic reviews
“Arthur plumbs the depths of family bonds with a moving, at times funny, story of sisterhood with a hint of romance.”—Booklist

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Olivia Strauss is turning thirty-nine. No major milestone. She still considers herself young. At least young enough to assume she has decades (emphasis on the plural) to check the unchecked boxes of her life’s to-do list. Ballerina? Too late. But not too late for poet. Or for reigniting the romantic spark in her marriage, spending more quality time with her son, switching careers, learning to cook, or even dyeing her hair a bright bohemian pink. She’ll get to that one. There’s time—until Olivia’s best friend, Marian, gives her a birthday present she could have lived without.

It’s 1936. The seaside-resort village of Split on the Adriatic coast bustles. The tourist spots are booming, passenger steamers dot the harbor, and Jewish émigrés have found tenuous refuge from persecution. But as war in Europe looms, Split is also a nest of spies, fascists, and smugglers—and now, a locale suspiciously scouted by a German Reich film crew. Then one summer morning it becomes the scene of a murder investigation when a corpse is found entangled in fishing nets in the port.

Interesting story
The story was interesting, It started off slow and had a lot of words in it. This was a different type of story for me. I enjoyed the story overall. My favorite character was Tammy because she was the underdog and had the family’s best interest at heart. I would recommend this book to others to listen to. I enjoyed the performance of the reader.

A good story overall
Good story, and I’d love to hear more from this author. However, the narrator kept throwing me off with the accents used. The attempts at Boston and Southern accents were so off putting and distracting. Yvonne sounded more like a cross between a NY mob boss and a housewife from Long Island than a Black woman from Boston. Other than that, I would recommend if you can get past it.

Family
Talk about can’t live with them. Can’t live without them family. The storyline was very realistic on the sisters and their relationship very realistic. I saw a lot of life in the story. Storyline was very good definitely would recommend the only thing I have to say coming from Massachusetts. The New England accent eek. Lol
